I know people talk about it in both Chronic pain group
view link and the caregivers group
view linkRepost and see if you can get some resources there. Anyway, I know it is terribly painful and affects many people with diabetes. I hope your husband gets his disability soon.
Thanks nanc50, and HippyGirl52 I will check out the two groups that you have suggested.
Thanks Vicki227
From what I've researched in caring for my husband, there are 2 kinds of neuropathy. One kind kills the nerves and they go numb. The second kind destroys the sheath which protects the nerve from exposure which causes constant burning-like pain. Diabetes causes both kinds though the numbing kind is more common. I'm not familiar with the other conditions that can cause these effects.
You can google 'neuropathy' and find information.
Go to the Mayo Clinic site and search on neuropathy
view linkWebMD is also a good site to search

Thanks miniquilter will check out the websites that you have gave me.
My diabetic husband has the kind that just makes him go numb. He experiences edema in his legs and feet also. I've been advised to gently oil his feet and legs and work from the toes up as gentle massage helps with circulation. I hope your husband has no problem getting his disability. Mine didn't.
Edema is that swelling in the feet and legs? He does have some swelling, some days are worse than others. The doctors have him on high blood pressure med., guess it will help with the swelling in the feet and legs. He has had a cold that he cannot get rid of. Go's to the doctor Tues. I 'am going to tell the doctor about the pain that he has in his legs. The seems worse some days than others. Yes his feet and legs are numb.
My husband has edema in his legs, feet and hands caused by the meds he takes for pain. He takes a diuretic for it and a potassium supplement which is important since the diuretic causes potassium loss.

Someone who is an herbalist in my Squeaking by Retirement group posted something about cayanne pepper helping neuropathy...here it is
For Steve's FYI: Are you aware that if you take 'Cayenne Pepper Herb' capsules or tea that your body will help keep you warm and toasty from the inside out, all winter-long? Not only is Cayenne Pepper excellent for blood circulation, it also increases the heart action, but not the blood pressure. It is said to prevent strokes and heart attacks. And another wonderful property of Cayenne is that it has a healing effect on Arthritis pain and stiffness! It is known as the purest and best stimulant in the herb kingdom. It is an excellent choice for Diabetes sufferers, too, as it enhances circulation and defeats neuropathy pains. All in all, I know that I'm never without my Cayenne Pepper these days, especially in the winter months, to ward off colds, the flu, and chills. Try some for yourself and see what you've been missing. Namaste, D22007.
You could send her a PM and get dosages - etc.
