Where to Turn When You're Desperate

Where to turn when you're desperate
Whether you need food, transportation, medical care or even just a little cash, you can find the help you need -- and deserve -- through dozens of local and online outlets.

Every day, people fall off the bottom rung of the economic ladder. They lose their jobs or their homes, or both, and have too little savings to cushion the blow.

I'm glad I took another look at this one. I haven't been able to work for several years, and am retired on SS. But I finally found a doctor who has helped my health isues so much that I'm thinking about trying to go back to work. There were a couple of mentions of places seniors can go for possible support in going back to work. Just what I need.

Another area where help can be needed is when there's an illness. When my husband had cancer treatment, he had to go 5 days/week for a month. There was the possibility that he'd have to stop work, and it would be weeks before any disability money came our way. At the time I worked 4 days/week, and we sure couldn't afford for me to be off. My boss was great, and I changed my hours 2 days, but the real saviors were those that helped the other 2 days. One day he got a ride home from the local seniors' group, and the other he got a ride from the cancer society. During that time he went to work with his regular ride in the am, took the bus (and later a taxi, when weaker) to the afternoon treatment, then 3 days I went and got him, 2 days the other rides. It was really stressful, but with a little help, we got through it without getting too far behind. Keep these wonderful resources in mind when there's a health problem.

Also, try a Goggle for "resources for the unemployed" ... it came up with what looks to be helpful links.
