I've been in remission for 3 years and 10 months from stage 4 ovarian cancer.
No matter how you try, it lies in the back of your mind; the possibility of it recurring or spreading. I am still visiting my oncologist every 4 months
I went back to work 2 months after surgery in 2004 because I had to. I am a widow and could not afford to retire. Fortunately, it was a good move for me.
Would welcome any responses from survivors. Thanks for this forum.
Yes, it does lie in the back of my mind and sometimes it comes forward to haunt me. I have been okay for 4 and a half years! I just had a visit with my onco and they found something suspicios but then I went for a CT scan and it seems to be okay. My cancre was in the right breast and only a stage 1 so I had just a lumpectomy but I have to take Femara pills for a total of 5 yrs. It will be 5 in April that I had the surgery but I didn't start the medicine until Oct of that yr.
Please check into EFA (essential Fatty acids) like from flax seeds and other things. They are supposed to help fight cancer.
Well. I had ovarian procedures back in the 90's and then non-smoking lung in 2006; now metastases in brain and bones---but not bad tumours. I've had all the chemo and radiation---wonderful doces-- and now trying the new Tarceva.
I remain confident I will have more active years.
As a divorce with two sons in college, and no close support group--I will live to see them into adulthood, I pray always for others and myself!
Hang in there.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in my left breast in December 1992, had a mastectomy then 6 months chemo. Have had some scares but doing good. God Bless to you all who have suffered with this terrible disease..
My brother has been diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer with mets. As i am a nurse it is very hard to stay. upbeat with him as he goes through this. He is receiving chemo orally and IV every 3 .weeks. They are putting a stent in his kidney on Friday. Originally they gave him 3 months to a year. What are the chances he could still go into remission?
casey , My baby brother was diagnosed with the same cancer but he had ignored a lot of signs. He had surgery but only lived 5 months after the surgery. We had noticed him clearing his throat over and over but was not around him but brief moments.
I just today received news that a friend, who I only know through our computer messaging, has breast cancer and is weighing her options. She has a difficult decision to make. Her name is Sharon Pope and she needs our prayers.
I too had ovarian cancer 3 years ago. I too seem to be doing well. You are right every ache or pain you kind of wonder if it is back. Until your health has been challenged you cannot really know how precious it is.
My husband had oral cancer, he battled it for 6 years before it took him from me. It was 18 months after losing him that I got cancer. My poor kids, but they are my rocks and pulled me through.
I pray all of us keep our health and enjoy our days

Gage123, I strongly recommend anyone with cancer to go to a major medical cancer center like M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. You don't get 2nd chances with this disease. Frequently the large centers have protocols that only they have, and sometimes medicines in trial that they can give you.
