Savory Pea Soup with Sausage

8 ounces smoked sausage ( use a good brand) cut into 1/2 inch pieces
1 package (16 ounces) dried split peas, sorted and rinced
3 medium carrots, sliced
2 ribs celery, sliced
1 medium onion, chopped
3/4 tsp dried marjoram leaves
1 bay leaf
2 cans (14 1/2 ounces) chicken broth

Heat small skillet, and addsausage; cook 5-8 minutes, until browned. Drain well. Place sausage and remaining ingredients in crock pot. Cover and cook on low 4-5 hours. Discard bay leaf, turn off heat and let set as this will thicken during this rest time.
