New collection!

Hello fellow collectors--
I have a brand new collection---a most rare and unusual one, & I am told, one that most people try to rid themselves of soon as they aquire it--but I say one mans trash, anothers treasures, right?? right!
I have a very large collection of various species of weeds in my lawn!!---there are buttercups, clover, and charlie's something or the other (weed) growing profusely-- ( for info on the charlies something or the other weed, you will have to ask hobbyist, he informed me of the various species in my collection and their worth, over the weekend, lol )--but...I say it is a fine collection....the clover, I keep for the bunnies that are frequent visitors, the weed with buttercup flowers I keep for small children to pick and share with me--and last but not least, the charlies whatever weed, I keep because it sounds pretty darn rare to me (hey, thats my story and Im sticking to it, so there Dennis) --anyone else share my passion for this interesting collection?? How about exotic weed collections--I dont have any of those yet, but would be very interested to add those to my current collection, completing it.......
Maybe we can share species, and infiltrate all lawns with this precious collection,--Even yours, Hobbyist---
;)

Hi Scarlettchick, Out here in the woods of the Mo. Ozarks, where we mostly raise rocks,(guess you could say natures collection!) we are very proud of our crabgrass for it comes up through the rocks. I landscape our yard with native plants that attract bee's & butterflies, helps out the hummers too. We have a collection of natures "weeds" that are really very pretty and make the landscape more pleasant to look at. Of course our Lab dog Luke makes sure he adds to our collection of pretty things "he" likes... like old turtle shells, certain pretty peices of dead wood, etc..

Nothing wrong with collecting them :) I enjoyed your humor :)
Thanks

As a child I loved the beautiful dandelions that adorned our "lawn."
Today I needed to find a place to sit while walking through a flea market. The spot at hand was covered with pretty little clover flowers. As you can see I am an admirer of natural landscaping. I would love to tear up the sod (actually would never have put it down if not required by subdivision rules)in our current lawn and replace it with natural landscaping. I do have a pot of lantana that the butterflies like.

Congratulations on your new collection, scarlett! See? I told you... we collect everything here. It would be great if you could share a picture of your collection with us. Maybe we could help you identify some of them so you could put little signs by them to let other curious souls know what you have. Yes, some of our members may be interested in trading weeds with you.

For the unenlightened, Glechoma hederacea (Ground-ivy; syn. Nepeta glechoma Benth., Nepeta hederacea (L.) Trevir.) is an aromatic, perennial, evergreen creeper of the mint family Lamiaceae, native to Europe and southwestern Asia but introduced to North America and now common in most regions such as scarlettchic's yard. Its common names include Alehoof, Creeping Charlie (or Charley), Catsfoot (from the size and shape of the leaf), Field Balm, Run-away-robin, Ground Ivy, Gill-over-the-ground, and Tunhoof. I have a complete list of other known weeds for anyone who is interested.

Since you probably have a superior dandelion collection, have you considered the fine art of wine making? And while I've seen lots of clover in my lifetime, by gosh & by golly, I have never come across a four leaf specimen.

You may want to reconsider your desire for adding exotic weeds to your collection. They may be interesting, nice to look at and great conversation pieces, but you might attract unwanted attention from the cops.

Hobbyist--
Thank you ever so much for the tips--I may just share my collection by photo, lol---seems I have sparked an interest in these specimens -
Might just be fun, heavensent and amcurious, for all of us to share our collections ---so whaddya say, should we take pics and share??-so others could appreciate the fine art of natures collectibles???....

Thanks for your suggestions and advice about the exotic weeds, Hobbyist--I certainly will consider it (your advice, not funny weeds, -lol ) ........and....you are right! I may still have a dandelion collection (come next spring)!! surpassed by no other, lol--- a great dandelion collection possibly could spark an interest in dandelion wine, might be quite yummy--anyone have a recipe???---
or, one could simply let children bring their cute little fingers full of these "exotic" weeds (dandelions, dennis, dandelions, lol )---- as token love bouquets :)
-As for the clovers, dennis, awwwww, you poor baby, I will try to find a four leaf and save it for you---supposedly they bring good luck, and with the way the world/stockmarket is going right now, it cant hurt, can it ;)

Hello Scarlett -- Yup, here's proof: If it exists, somebody collects it! (Probably somebody in our group!!!) Good for you for finding something NEW! I think we all appreciate the finer points and details of our environment in a way that non-collectors do not experience! Have fun with your collection(s)! -- Maggie

Well, how do you like that? I guess I have another collection I didn't count.....every Christmas season, I get one of those beautiful Christmas cactus plants that bloom at Christmas and a Pointsettia and for the next few months, I try and try to keep them alive and by June, they are just sticks on my patio and I have ti throw them out and start over.
I have a problem with watering too much. I just never know if the poor things are really thirsty in this heat, so I keep watering them and then they die.
So I'd have to call it a seasonal collection. LOL

I have plenty of pics of my weeds :P HOW do you want them posted? I dont see a way to do it in this reply. Should I put them in group photo's or in a message here?

I love natures flowers, and photography although I'm not great at it, but feel beauty is in the eye of the beholder :)
