Talking about dating and finding that special someone is lots of fun. Even dating can be fun. Many of you have found yourselves back in the dating scene either because of divorce or moving on from the death of a spouse. Dating is not the same thing it was when we were younger - our issues are entirely different than they were back then, including how our grown children react to our dating.

This isn't a place to "hook up", but instead, to talk about the issues involved in dating at our age.

An important issue of the dating scene is the increasing incidence of STD (Sexually Transmitted Diseases). The largest segment of the population to be affected is adults over age 50.

Do you think you are safe from this because you think everyone in this age bracket has been true and faithful? Think again.

Thanks for the invite Marti. It is important subject matter. I am looking myself.

STD's for women over 50. Sexual freedom due to menopause, isn't really freedom. It might feel great not to have to worry about a pregnancy, but one still needs to "suit up" and use a condom. On average as adults we have not been sitting home playing bingo.

what about the men that are on the down low......what does that means......it means the men that go to bed with other men....and some of these men are married ....I said some of them are....married.....makes you want to do without that kind of inimatcy....I am surely doing without sex....for that reason and other reasons also....because I chose to be that way.....it is safer and you won't get hurt....

just because we may be getting AARP magazine does not mean we can't get STDs. I like Valerie T's "Suit up" every time, every time every single time until you both are tested and committed to each other. Don't make the assumption that although someone says they were married for 30 years they didn't step out. and as for men on the down low.....run run run in the opposite direction. A life sentence is not worth an moment's pleasure.

When you know deep inside that you may have to pay.
You may tell the man a suite he must wear
But haven’t you heard sometimes they tear.
So get yourself tested
Have him do it to
If either one cares
They will do it for you
Or is it just a game you play for one night
If that is so for me your not right.

Dating?>>>it seems to be more like hunting from what I have seen in the men I have dated , and lets say most were not what they said they were ,all in good time you find the truth . I have not dated that many because none really interest me , but by this age maybe thats it and none will ever interest me . A one night game is not for me .I wish there were males in the world that used the head on top of their body that hold what is called a brain. Would be nice.

Dating? Trying to remember what that means. I have been divorced 10 years and in that time have dated one man. A few other one date only's. Would really like to expand social circle--but what I read here is not encouraging.

I don't know if I want to step into this new reality. I never had to deal with all this stuff before. It might as well be safe just to stay friends with a social group and keep busy that way.
