"Heart disease kills more Women than the top 5 other causes combined. Women are 10 times more likely to die of cardiovascular disease than cancer."
I've posted a couple of files for your comments. Both have to do with Prevention versus treatment of cancer and heart disease. There's too much emphasis on treatment and not enough on prevention in this country.
The purest form of alternative health is not getting sick in the first place. The power is having the knowledge to make this happen!
Thank you for posting this message and the files, Rad. Prevention is so important, in many ways. Not only with the major issues and diseases, but with quality of life. Don't forget your joints, including your knees, hips, shoulders, and feet. Life gets pretty rough if you don't have good joint movement!
You have hit on a key....the knees. They are a key to a long healthy life...
Here's my "preventive" thinking when it comes to knees and joint:
1. Exercise using heart rate monitors 2. Cardio train (spinning and jogging) at least 2 days a week on the "easy" side and two days "hard" 3. Do leg resistance training one or two times a week (free weights no machines) 4. Practice Yoga standing balance and during resistance training (lifting while standing on one leg, etc) 5. Eat an anti-inflammatory diet 6. Supplement with glucosamine/chondroitin/Sam-e/MSM/L- glutamine 7. Avoid activities that have a higher risk of knee injury....skiing, basketball, etc. 8. Never exercise joints that cause severe and or constant pain, and never exercise hard joints when muscles are sore.
Good advice, Rad. I take the supplements and exercise daily- jogging is not something I have ever been comfortable doing, and my Natuopaths/Chiropractors have encouraged lots of fast walking, at least 30 minutes a day. I would like to suggest that to those who don't/can't jog. I also work very hard at outdoor 'labor' such as gardening, and riding horseback, which is is a great way to keep the body in shape, if you really ride the horse, not just sit on it.
My naturopath prescribed 2000 units of Omega 3 fish oil daily, from Nordic Naturals ( fish from non -polluted waters) to lubricate my joints. It has really helped-in many ways.
Amen, unless it's gone way beyond prevention through a total lack of professionalism from a trusted doctor who for a year and a half diagnosed my very real symptoms as "female problems". My sight began to deteriorate, I suffered a "silent stroke", albeit minor, thank you, God. What could possibly have been prevented quickly spiraled out of control due to mood swings, chronic pain, the stress of losing my young husband (he was 44) and the depression his loss caused my 19 year old son. All of this and still no proper diagnosis. Until one day he was out of the office and an associate took a blood test...diabetes 2.
Alternative health is changing my life after years of experimenting with drugs and narcotics prescribed for my diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and for the past several years, fibromyalgia. Since transitioning to Alternative health my diabetes is finally under control, my blood pressure is normal, I am off of several prescription medications and my quality of life has totally improved.
Prevention is, indeed, the answer that should begin in childhood. Good healthcare should be made available to all.
IMGettingthere...thanks for sharing your story. I'm afraid it's played out all too often in the US. Doctors complain about malpractice insurance but they deserve what they get for their incompetence! Type 2 diabetes is the scourge of America and Doctors should be leading the call for it's stamping out!
Let me join you in saying the same, I have lots of good cholesterol and very little bad cholesterol, I take NO prescription drugs, my blood pressure is 120 over 80 (I am 61) etc. I only use olive oil to cook and eat, but here the real secret to heart health, no sugar of any kind! Sugar combines with fat to form triglycerides in your arteries, etc. That's what kills you. Our ancestors ate high fat diets but no artificial sugar, only fruits, etc. since the introduction of refined sugars, heart disease has flourished. My neighbor downstairs is a good example, 81 years old, last week had triple bypass heart surgery, is suffering greatly now from post operative pain and terrible depression, I go down every day trying to cheer her up.
I forgot to mention, my friend downstairs has been living on a high fat and sugar diet all her life, she eats half a pound of chocolate every day, loads of ice cream, cookies, etc. When i mentioned this was not good for her, she laughed and said" well, we all have to die from something" Well, she's not laughing now....
