LIVING ABROAD

Photobucket

Members of Eons don't just live in the USA. We are all over the place! And now that Eons has opened its doors to people from all over the globe, there will be more and more of us here.

This is the place to tell us what it is like where you live, the good, the bad and the ugly, and for others thinking of a move, a place to ask questions.

Please do not use this group for promoting your rental properties or your properties for sale. I have established a sister site for that purpose, LIVING ABROAD-SALES, RENTALS & EXCHANGES, view link

Hi! I am not living abroad, at least not now. But I would truly enjoy reading about people that are, and their experiences. Maybe one day I will be living abroad somewhere.

Fortunately, Charlene, there are other places to live that are less expensive. I spent 16 years living and working in Europe and Asia. I now have lived in The Philippines for a little over 4 months, and I can tell you that if you are concerned about the dollar and its value, come here. As an example, my doctor, educated and retired from Illinois, charges 100 Philippine Pesos for my visit. Thats just over $2.00. I recently hired a domestic helper, she does the laundry, house cleaning, some cooking, and general lawn work. She works from 6am to 5pm on 4 days a week. I pay her 500 pesos per week, which is $10.41. She is overjoyed as her last job (7 days a week) paid 1500 pesos a month ($31.25). To put things in perspective, the average income here is $1,500.00 per year. PER YEAR. So, if living without excess is your cup of tea, consider one of the Philippines' 7,107 islands, excepting, of course, Mindanao. Mindanao is a beautiful place, however, parts of that island are unfavorable as there are rebellious folks there.
Try the Visayas, which is central Philippines. The nicest people I have met in over 50 countries.

Hi CharleneDublin.
We moved over to Kusadasi in Turkey one year ago and have absolutely no regrets. The weather here is wonderful (for a start) and there is no sign of the 'R' word. You should take a holiday over here and get the feeling. My husband and I are retired and so don't have to find a job, as to take up employment is forbidden. The € more than doubles over here, so life is very good. The Turkish people are also very friendly and welcoming.
