Why We Do Organic
I have just finished reading Barbara Kingsolver's book "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" and if you think you support organic gardening, like the Farmer's Market, and are concerned about the environment, this is a must read. I listened to it on a book tape while driving a gazillion miles, and have the hard copy which I'll keep for reference.
Basically Kingsolver and her family committed to living for one year on whatever they could produce organically or buy locally. So, there go the bananas and Chilean grapes in January. The book is an easy read, with lots of insights on the amount of fuel our eating habits consume and how we can save energy with even small changes. It also has recipes and menu plans.
I came away more inspired than ever.
