I know what a yurt is and I understand. I grew up in So. Cal., attended all the love-ins, remember the "summer of love" vividly. Living in the midwest now. Want to move back west and find a small parcel of my own!
I too have a dream of living in a yurt and growing things.
When I was living in Western Oregon in the 70's, I knew a couple who moved to Alaska and lived in a yurt and survived by collecting and selling certain mushrooms and salmon. I am not really a yurt person, but they loved their lifestyle. So where do you want to plant your dream yurt? I, too am watching this revival of the "Mother Earth" movement with a lot of excitement. I always knew that I was not alone out here in this wild world...

I would stick to northern Minnesota on one of the beautiful lakes or rivers we have. I know there are many beautiful places in this country, but I need to stick close to family for my own well being. To me the yurt being so open and all gives a sense of expansiveness in a small place. I have always had this romantic notion about having just enough land to support a dairy cow or goat (think milk, cheese, soaps, etc.) a handful of chickens, and a small but efficiently bountiful garden plot, and a place to catch fish and live simply yet comfortably with my wonderful hubby and our two little dogs. I woudl of course need enough room for family to visit. So, to all the other dreamers out there, I say let's manifest it!
Not sure what a yurt is but I too was a flower child of the 60's......lived in Yorkville village in Toronto and did the make love not war thing.....and the whole phsychedelic scene.... protested the Vietnam war.....etc. etc. etc. experimented with several drugs and was lucky to come out of that era with a relatively sane mind and body today. I am now a friend of Bill W.......for several years now and am very grateful. I live on a beautiful lake away from the city and enjoy the peace and beauty of mother nature and her inhabitants.
