A real game changer. Still reading when I have the chance... who could have thought this could get even more interesting. Yesterday, I thought I could envision what most of the discussion/debate would be about... today... who knows the directions either will take...

I bet this brought the Obama campaign down from yesterday's high.

Has McCain decided to drop one of his best arguments to be President? How can he continue to (successfully, I think) emphasize 'experience and readiness to lead' with this VP choice?

If it is to get the female vote, I'm thinking that might not work really well. But we'll see....

Ideas? Why her over Pawlenty?

She's inexperienced enough to be clean and bore a Down child instead of aborting it. She's good looking and young and eloquent, everything McCain isn't. She might even be taller, but I'm not sure. Pretty good fodder for the right wing of the right wing. All except the ovary bit, and they'll likely overlook that.

What's wrong with her? age 43, 4 children already, and she decides to have another child. Now, she wants to run for VP. Who's going to raise her child? If I had a Downs Syndrome child, I hope I would want to devote my life to raising her, not shuffling her off to nannies.

She comes from the corruption-ridden state that only has 500 residents. Half the politicians are under indictment or in jail.

She has no experience--2 years in office in the teeny tiny state. Smaller than Arkansas, [remember Ross Perot belittled Clinton's experience]. In the words of one pundit, she makes Obama look like Thomas Jefferson.

Plenty of women manage work and family, O-Mama. And she does have a husband. All the others have kids too.

Apparently she took on some big dawgs in Alaska and won.

Though I might not agree with her politics, from what I have read, she is quite remarkable.

But, after the initial shock, I'm starting to think this could be a mistake in a number of ways.

First, apparently McCain only met her in person once. ONCE. For the biggest decision of his campaign.

Second, his choice puts McCain's age overtly on the table. If, heaven forbid, something happens, she would be President of the United States.

Third, he cant use the, justified IMO, Obama's inexperience against him anymore.

He already had those who vote primarily on the anti-abortion and/or gun issue.

Yes, she is an 'outsider' so he can try the change angle which I am sure he will. But there was enough residue of the 'maverick' McCain that this plus may not be that strong.

So what does she bring? Gender. That could really backfire if women think that McCain assumes that gender is the determination of many women's vote. HRC supporters had a lot of damn good reasons for their allegience and to think their loyalty was just due to gender is an insult. Havent heard what the Hillary holdouts think, but her 'glass ceiling' remark borrowed from Clinton could backfire.

What I fear is that what appears to be a remarkable woman is going to get chewed up. Badly. Just picture her with ANY of the candidates from EITHER party in a national debate.

Dang.
