I really should preview my post. lol I meant "I think the actual sewing will be easy since it is IT IS ALL STRAIGHT LINES." Just the side and bottom hems and rod pockets at the top. And the triangles sewed together for the top.
You could use a denim needle, but you need to use upholstery or some other heavy duty thread - something that will hold up better to the weather than regular thread.

Grammiesue,
Have you considered using a surger? The multi-needle seam will give you the amount of strength you need.
Oh a surger would be great. I don't have one. But I do wonder about the thread. I think I may have to get something stronger than even JoAnn's sells. Since it is outside I wonder if a carpet thread is even strong enough?
I've thought of sewing my own patio cover (like one of those "sail" covers), so I'll be interested to hear how it goes for you!
Well now my husband wants to put up an aluminum patio cover. I am thankful since I was really worried about hurting my machine sewing that canvas. Now I have 6 large canvas sheets and don't know what to so with them. I may still be sewing them since we need a car cover for the Mountains.
Sorry forgot to get the name of the person who maybe sewing a patio cover too. Have you tried the outdoor fabrics at Joann? They have some wonderful weights and colors that would be a lot easier to use than canvas. We were just using it since we had such a large area to cover.
