Newbie

I'm a newbie to the Aspiring Writers Group, but an Ageing Boomer in Real Life. I have one novel in a drawer that needs to be reworked (wrote it a long time ago) and one I am trying to publish (metaphysical genre). I've had a few articles or essays published.
I'm trying to persevere with the novel thing and considering seeking an agent. Also trying to get started on something new. Lots of ideas/option anxiety.
I'd love to hear from some of you.
Hi, JD, As usual I'm a little late in replying. That's what happens when one belongs to so many groups. Here is a suggestion: Get that novel outta the drawer and polish it. Get it started on its way to publication.

Hi, Judith... I don't post too often because I'm busy writing! LOL Seriously, I'm not on Eons too often, but I'm trying to do better with managing the groups I belong to.

Okay, on to the advice. You might want to check out the National Novel Editing Month website for help in editing your novel (www.nanoedmo.net), and also the National Novel Finishing Month website (www.nanofimo.org). I participate in the National Novel Writing Month (www.nanowrimo.com) every November. The point of NaNoWriMo (as it's called) it to get a 50,000-plus word novel written in 30 days. That means you have to turn off your internal editor and just write. I love it! It really helps my creativity. I have participated for 3 years and have 3 completed novels. I did participate in the novel editing month (which is March, I think) one year and it helped me to edit my novel so I could at least send it out to potential publishers/agents.

But, the real beauty of signing up for these events (even if you decide not to actually participate), is the wealth of information disseminated there. There are agent lists, lists of agents and publishers you do not want to use and why, and all sorts of good information.

Good luck!
