Move Over Jesus

According to the Associated Press, at a fundraising luncheon, Obama said he told Pakistan's new leader Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani that "the only way we're going to be successful in the long term in defeating extremists ... is if we are giving people opportunities. If people have a chance for a better life, then they are not as likely to turn to the ideologies of violence and despair."

I guess the Muslims also have a problem with clinging to their guns (and suicide belts) and religion when circumstances are not optimal. Now he seeks to change the centuries of ingrained culture of Islamic countries as a means to erase the terrorist threat.

Maybe Oprah, in eluding to his cult-like religious following, was right when she said that Obama didn’t offer us the right way but is indeed “the way”. Move over Jesus.

In fact, the mission of Jesus was giving people hope when there was nothing but despair in the world. He told them there was a kingdom on the other side that was a vast improvement over the current economic and political oppression. There is no question that when people have a hope for good life and future here on earth their enthusiasm for committing suicide diminishes. That is why the Islamic religious/political despots fear the west. It was the whole idea behind the Iranian Revolution. There are not a lot of Muslims committing suicide in Dubai. They are becoming millionaires and enjoying the good life. I wish Gelani luck but I fear that some religious zealot will probably shoot him or blow him up at the earliest opportunity. He can then sit down an have a conversation with Jesus and Mohammad and determine the true meanings of their missions here on earth.

Bluesman is usually not quite this awkward in his sarcasm, but he likes to pretend that the enthusiasm many of us feel about Obama is somehow "cult-like" or "religious". I'm beginning to think that this and all the other weak "jokes" being posted by conservatives lately are rooted in the fear that more and more Americans will actually vote based on hope rather than baseless, decades-old fears. Apparently the conservatives have no rational rebuttals, so they must stoop to this kind of silly "joke".

I do not believe there is a need to religoously convert moslems. just to allow them have acess to a "good life" there has been enough damage in the name of conversion.

Apparently there are not a lot of Christians posting yet. Jesus is "The Way", according to the Bible. If Obama offered us "The Way", that suggests he is replacing Jesus. This seemed pretty obvious to me from Blues' post.

Obama may be offering "the way" to end the robber barrons who have run this country for 30 years. A little equality for the common man may not be a bad idea.

As for jesus ? There are many roads to the house.
