The 535 Club
This is a non-partisan political group for everyone and anyone who agrees that it is time to vote EVERY member of Congress out. We keep voting them out until they start working for the people and only for the people.
No more working for special interests; no more pork - work for the people - do what we want!!
Latest Group Announcement
Welcome to the 535 Club
The US Congress has 535 members in its elite "club"; 100 US Senators and 435 US Representatives.
This group began after a conversation with my mother (MissAnne1928) in which we both shared our frustration with the US Congress and its lack of concern about the needs of "we, the people". My mother made the comment, "We have no choice but to clean house and vote everyone of them out of office." And with that simple statement, this group was born.
This is a non-partisan group.
Both sides of the aisle have created the mess that this country finds itself in today. "We, the people" have also contributed by allowing these dirty, rotten scoundrels to run amok with our tax dollars and our country. It's time to take our country back and it starts on November 4, 2008. And if the new members of the 535 Club don't "get it", we'll do it again in 2010.
One of our newer members (Gary James) made the comment that 9% of the 535 are decent. It is unfair to use a sweeping generalization that 100% of them are bad. Are 9% decent? I don't know. There must be a few good ones; but just look at the last 30-40 years and it's not hard to realize that most need to go; especially the career ones...
Joining me as Moderators are allen42, mshadow22 and MtnGirl53 - we cover every spectrum of the political map: conservative, liberal, libertarian and you just never know...no one side of the aisle has a leg up in this group.
THE RULES - Play nice, show respect and follow eons TOUs. If you don't follow the rules or annoy the Moderators, we'll vote you out - no group member gets any better treatment than any member of Congress!!
Also, all posts must in some way relate to Congress; there are other groups to address the 2008 POTUS race or other issues.

Elitists
I believe politicians on both sides are elitists. That's what attracts them to this living. Whenever Americans struggle with making a living, politicians continue to make more. When voting themselves a raise made too much of a stink, they just re-wrote the law to have automatic pay raises, so no need to vote. Whenever a third party makes any headway, they just manipulate their own process to exclude it.
If they weren't allowed to make more money than the average American does, we would have real leadership. But that's not going to happen, they have a strangle hold on the process. They will never be subject to the same laws as we Americans. they are elitists, we are their subjects.

SAVE THE PLANET?
Nancy Pelosi is now saying that she will NOT allow debate or an up or down vote on oil drilling .. because she wants to save the planet. I have an idea that might save the planet. Send Ms. Pelosi to the International Space Station, insist she take a space walk, and when she becomes disconnected .. Ooops! Any other planet saving ideas out there? Oh, oh, was this hateful, or what?

UNLESS, whoever manages to win, recinds the Emergency and War Powers Act and restores the Constitution of 1787, we'll still be under the power of One Individual; THE COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF of the Corporate United States Imperial Government.

How we got here, I believe.
Ever since I became politically aware, I have voted against my 535'ers to no avail. Why? I believe I've found the answer in this quote that has a questionable source:
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy..."
This is what we have going on now, and in my opinion since the end of the Depression. People who want something for nothing will make the effort to vote, as it costs them nothing and has huge returns. This includes many classes of people, not just the poor. Prying this 'free money' out of the hands of these people, and eliminating the Washington Vote Whores who believe they 'speak for the people', is going to be a monumental job, and we may have lost already. The only way to overcome this problem is to find a majority of voters who really wish to clean things up to act.. and vote. Of course, there has to be candidates worth voting for. I haven't seen any yet....

Energy Crisis Solved
When it comes to the energy problem facing Western civilization today, there's a lot of talk in Washington about doing something. But that's all it is: Talk. Senate talk. Congress talk. Presidential talk. Yabbing, jabbing, jawing poppycock and jibberish... none of it adds up to any useful solutions that would actually end our dependence on oil or embrace revolutionary ideas on renewable energy.
In fact, in observing all this, I've come to the conclusion that the only sure way to generate enough renewable energy to power the Western world is to install wind farms in front of the Senate podium, then focus those giant propellers on the constant stream of hot air spewing forth from the mouths of over-enthusiastic, under-informed politicians who insist on talking about eco-friendly ideas they have no intention of ever voting into law.
This strategy would at least turn the Senate floor into something useful: A hot air renewable energy machine powered by otherwise useless politicians.

HI
Since this group is the only one that concentrates on the other 50% or our problems in this country, I figured I should join and put in my 2 cents. I am so disappointed with congress, and most congressmen and Senators that it is very depressing. Not sure we can do much about it, but it might help talking.
I think a majority of Americans will have a fair idea about the person they are voting for to be POTUS, but a relatively few will really know anything about their congressman. That may explain the jokers in Washington that are lining their pockets and not doing the countries business.

If This Is An Example of Who Is Running
against the incumbents, we're in deep, deep trouble. In some cases the incumbent really is better than the unknown. We need term limits, but we desperately need quality candidates to step in. Details in first reply
Response from my Congressman
I wrote Brian Baird, my Congressman, about the energy issue. He has responded.
IMHO, he says absolutely nothing...
