Electric Cars

Enjoyed the info, from nightree. I believe, I would like a small electric car, in the future. Keep the news coming on this topic. Remember me saying, I like BUD, not doing so bad, considering the economy. Still sending small amounts in for my dividend reinvestment accounts. Keep the faith........

plug in cars

A story which has received a little coverage in this country is that Nissan/Renault has cut a deal with Israel to supply electric cars. Israel will work on the infrastructure needed to support them.
Now Nissan has announced they will make those cars available in the U.S. in 2010. They aren't the only ones working on them.
Where we are headed is two classes of cars; a town car and a highway car. Vehicles like the Prius shine in local stop and start driving. Gasoline vehicles are at their worst when used for local driving.
Eventually one or more auto makers will be big winners. But electric utilities charging such cars overnight will be able to flatten their load and achieve certain economies and greater revenues.
Anyone who has tried to start a car on a cold morning knows that batteries are the week link. Enter the "electrochemical double layer capacitor". In one test the charge from such a device started a car at thirty below. Nearly all of the patents and development work on these devices is taking place in Japan. It's a buzz phrase to know. I haven't identified an investment tied to it directly.

New Group - Stock Option Trading

Hello All,

For those interested in option trading or learning about option trading, there is a new group, ..........

"Stock Option Trading".

The veteran traders can post there suggestions and the "newbies" can ask their questions.

I am not a seasoned option trader, far from it....but I"m learning.

I felt there might be an interest in option trading if there were a special group dealing it.

Please join in and post your questions or suggestions.

Muni Bonds

There was an article in Kiplingers that was an interview with Bill Gross of Pimco. He thinks with yields being what they are that now might be a time to get into muni bond funds such as those offered by Nuveen and others. There are also ETFs of munis that are selling at a discount. Worth a look.

foreign stocks

Has anyone noticed how closely the various stock markets are correlated? I was getting into foreign stocks, thinking that they were safer but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Charting Software

Hi,

I guess I'm a pre-beginner to stock investing. I have a friend who gave me several books which I read, and a CD course on a trading method called Quantum Swing Trader by Bill & Greg Poulos. I'm working my way through this trading method course.

Unfortunately my friend talks too fast and over my head to follow what he says. So I'm kind of own my own for the time being...Any suggestions are welcome. I don't want to try to learn alot of different trading methods. I wonder whether anyone reading this is familiar with the Quantum Swing Trader method?? Any ideas on where I can access charting software with stochastics that doesn't cost $4000?? or maybe one that is free access?? good websites??

Of course ideally I'd like to find a mentor, but I don't have one currently. I live in the Boston, MA area.

Thanks.

Anyone re Info about Avaya & Alcatel-Lucent

Hi!
Can someone tell me where I can find the resource or perhaps know and share the answer to my question that follows?
Lucent stock certificates were converted to Alcatel-Lucent in Nov, 2006. Where does Avaya fit into this picture? Did Lucent spin-off to both companies (Alcatel-Lucent [ALU] and Avaya [AV]?
Thanks.

interesting thoughts

On Tuesday a salesman from an investment firm came and talked to me about his company. I thought I had clicked on a link to get a booklet entitled something like “10 mistakes an investor shouldn’t make.” I knew that I would be subjected to a sales pitch. I didn’t expect a home visit, but when they asked permission, I went along with it thinking I could at least pick the salesman’s brain. They sent some stuff in advance that I went over on Monday. Then they called and asked what if anything I would like to discuss with the salesman. I told him I would like their opinion of the economy and how they would handle it. Well, that was a complex enough question that he threw out the canned speech (score one for me) and just dealt with my question and their market approach. This was the only person I have heard recently that didn’t think we were about to fall off a cliff and had convincing arguments for his position. One thing they use is the spread between what I think he called the earnings yield and the interest rate. If the spread narrows too much there is no incentive to borrow to grow a company and then there is a major down turn and possibly a recession. Right now the spread is healthy. Have any of you ever heard of anything like that?
Another thing he pointed out is that most of the serious down turns happen after a number of months of sideways movement. These sudden drops are more typical of a correction.
He also debunked the idea that our governments debt is bad for the stock market. He showed that a down turn is more often correlated to a surplus. Interesting points. I don't know if what he said will prove true this time but it is something to think about.
Do any of you have any thoughts?
I don't
