Solo Cruise Travel
If you cruise alone by choice or circumstance, this group is for you! Discuss your solo cruise experiences or perhaps find a suitable roomie for your next sailing. The group is titled "Solo" instead of "Singles" because marrieds may have a spouse who does not like cruising. Happy sailing!

SOLO CRUISE TRAVEL Group
I would like to welcome our new members, and say a special thank you to those who have posted messages. This group is new and will take time to grow and evolve. It can only do so with the active participation of its members. If you have any suggestions for the group, feel free to send me a message.
PURPOSE: The purpose of the SOLO CRUISE TRAVEL group is to provide solo cruisers a group of their own where they may SHARE their cruise experiences (whether they cruised alone or with a roommate), SEEK a friend to share a cabin, to avoid the single supplement fee, and INQUIRE about cruising alone or how to find a roommate.
IMPORTANT: This group is titled SOLO Cruise Travel because many (like myself) are married but travel alone and sometimes even ENJOY having a cabin to themselves. It is just as much about going solo but meeting other solos who might be on your cruise as it is about those seeking a friend to share the expense.
Please note that this group is NOT a "dating service." Any messages unrelated to the purpose of this group may be removed at the group manager's discretion. No personal ads, PLEASE! Thank you.

Hello, fellow cruisers
I am happy to see a group for solo cruisers who don't always want to go solo.I have taken about 20 cruises since the 70's, on Sitmar, Princess, Costa, and Celebrity. I have visited the Caribbean{? times}, Alaska[2 times], South America and Panama Canal, and Mexico. Hopefully some day soon I can take the Hawaii cruise I have been wanting to take for years. Thank ya'll for allowing me to be apart of your group! Hope to see you on a cruise real soon!
Hi fellow adventurers
Thanks for informing me of this group. I had just joined the independent travelers group and stated that I was looking for a cabinmate to take advantage of the cheap last minute deals (but not cheap for single travelers).
I was just told about this group - thanks Lindy.
I subscribe to all the cruising web sites and I live in south Florida and am so ready to take advantage of the offers, since the dollar makes European traveling out of the question for now.
I am retired, live not far from the Ft Lauderdale and Miami ports and need just enough notice to pack my suitcase - 4 to 6 times a year (not rich).
Hope to hear from some of you and to get to know you.
Nancy

August to Alaska
I posted on the Alaska site and want to have it here as well. Hope some of you will join me..Princess Dawn for 10 days. (August 25). I love just being on the ocean so that is why I opted for this one. I went to Alaska a few yrs ago and have wanted to return ever since. I will repeat 2 or 3 Wildlife tours since that is my main interest. Let me know if you go!
Fantastic Florida!!
Welcome to the group, Nancy!
You sound like my kind of Cruiser as I know I will never get tired of that incredible experience! Just walking the deck in early morning especially during "at sea" days is indescribable.
As you edit the postings in our group, I'm fairly certain you'll hook up with someone of "like mind and attitude" to share awesome cruising with.
I couldn't resist the Crocodile greeting since their "visits" to Floridian homes have been in the news so much lately! ;-)
Have a Super Sunday!
Lindy :-)

River Cruises
Have any of you well traveled cruiser ever done "River Cruises"? I have some friends that did one on the Danube &/or Rhine, not sure which, regardless, they loved it! Of course, it wasn't the mega Cruise ship with all the amenities (numerous dining venues, casino, pool, etc.) but very accommodating and intimate. (A few single rooms on some of the boats.) I've been looking at one up the Colombia River, looks like beautiful country, and windy. (So are some parts of Alaska - Sitka? can't remember for sure) (I've always been intrigued by the journey of Louis & Clark.) Until the economy turns around, I'm not going anywhere, or elsewise, I might be "up the river" for good. Unless I stumble on a steal of a deal, you folks living close to a port have such an advantage, air fare is a huge factor to me, especially when you have to buy it on short notice. Driving isn't any better, we all know about paying the pump. Maybe one of these days....didn't mean to get long winded.
Roll Call for Alaska Cruise
I have opened a new group:
Roll Call - Eons Alaska Cruise - July 08 view link
This group is for everyone to get to know each other. To enhance our fun, turn up the cruising fever a notch and discuss anything we want to discuss without distrupting the flow of the other groups, I hope you will join me in getting the party started!
If you haven't signed up for the Eons Alaska Cruise there is still time. For this cruise, marrieds, attached couples or singles are all welcome on this cruise.

Like the rest of you, I love to cruise. Or love to travel any way I can get there!
I have been on 7 cruises on Carnival. Working my way toward Platinum and those chocolate dipped strawberries! Actually, we get a plate of strawberries every time because we are Vacation Club members but our membership expires in October and we don't plan to renew. So ... those extra little goodies will have to wait until cruise #10. I think I can do three without them. hahaha
The "we" above is my daughter and I usually. She has gone with me 4 times. I went with my other daughter once, and twice with friends.
I am quickly running out of cruising mates. They just cannot keep up with me I guess! HAH!
The solo suppliment is worse than OUTRAGEOUS! In the first place, I cannot afford it and in the second place I am not so sure I would spend that kind of money just to go alone in a room. How much time do we spend in a room anyway? Sleep and shower. That's it. Sleep is not much on my mind on a cruise. I don't forgo the shower though. haha
Our first cruise, we went 4 women in one room. Now that was a TIGHT fit! But we did have a blast. It was like having a slumber party when we were kids. Stuff EVERYWHERE. No kidding!
Anyway, just wanted to meet you. I think you have a great idea for a good group to grow here. Let me know what I can do to help.

IMPORTANT - What this group is NOT!
This group is NOT a DATING SERVICE! It is for those who cruise SOLO by CHOICE, as well as those who are planning to cruise and hope to find a FRIEND to share the expense of a cabin. Please read the Announcement at the top of this page as to the group's purpose.
I removed a message and the group membership of someone who joined and immediately made a completely inappropriate post - along the lines of a "personal ad" and stating that his income and all his details are on some dating service and that he is "looking," etc. - not one word about cruising!
This has forced me to change our group settings so that new members must be approved by me before posting, which could cause a delay in some messages appearing. My apologies to those who have joined and posted about CRUISING. You are greatly APPRECIATED. Thanks!

Cabin-mate Traits to Ponder
I had posted a "Questionnaire" inquiry as an Announcement some time ago, but I think a similar post as a message might work better. Your answers to these questions are not meant to be a solicitation for a roommate. Instead, it is hoped that all here will think seriously about what matters most to them to ensure a pleasant sailing.
Some very important questions to ponder when contemplating someone to share a cruise cabin with are:
(A) How much time will you actually be spending together?
(B) What traits are most important to you in a cabin-mate?
(C) What would make you too uncomfortable or irritated to tolerate?
(D) Will you ask your potential cabin-mate these questions to find out if they have different expectations from yours?
So let's start there and see what's on everyone's mind!
