Dry Cough
I have had a dry cough it's a result of a new high blood pressure medicine. Does any one have this problem? I got some meds for acid reflux. It's so annoying when I break out in this cough.
High Lipoprotein (a) reading
Hello All,
I just joined this group so this may have been discussed before.
My recent blood tests indicate a very high Lipoprotein(a)count.
Lipoprotein(a) is a protein that prevents the body from dissloving the blood clots which it is constantly making or we would bleed to death if we were cut. One of the symptoms of a high Lipo(a)count is ...sudden death.
I have read about 2 amino acids, (L-arginine & L-Citruline), that produce nitric oxide in the body which not only reduces the Lipo(a)count, but is suppose to do fantastic things for the heart and arteries. In some cases eliminating the need for statins.
There is a company I have just been introduced to that makes a liquid combination of both of these amino acids. BUT......it is a multi-level company and I am spectical of some of their findings and claims. In fact one person told me, that while doing web research, she found a report indicating a test with L-Arginine and a placebo had to be stopped because a lot of the patients taking the L-Arginine.......were dieing.
Does anyone in this group have experience with either of these amino acids being used to treat heart disease? Were the results positive? Has anyone found any studies on this treatment?
Again...if this has been discussed before I apologize for bringing it up again.
Thank You,
Talon

High Blood Pressure
Any tips on how to naturally lower high blood pressure? I was layed off from my job and can't afford any medications but actually losing my job has lowered my blood pressure quite a bit already. Now I am able to get decent amount of sleep where before I was lucky to get 5 or 6 hours due to a long commute but the unemployment pay sucks LOL.
No Cold or Icey Water
This probably is only new news to me, but I rec'd an email from one of my friends, who are looking out for me since I had a triple by pass last December.
Drinking a cold beverage with or immediately after any meal causes any oily or fats in the food to turn to sludge and slows down digestion, thus clogging your veins and arteries much faster than normal, leading to either or sometimes both cancer and heart attacks.
The article suggests that room temp. or warm/hot drinks be consumed with meals and to wait at least an hour before downing ice water, sodas, or iced tea.
I really never gave this any thought before, but believe me I pay attention now.

Spring is upon us....
...or so they say. I woke up to a coating of snow and ice on the car, so I'm not completely buying this Spring thing. But for many of you, I'm sure the temperatures have warmed up and so have your grills.
What does this mean? Well, BBQ's are fun, no doubt about it, but the foods we enjoy can be devestating to our health. This is not the time to quit eating a healthy oat based breakfast. In fact, it's probably time to see how you can "healthy up" those feasts at the picnic table.
Swap out your regular chips for Sun Chips. Whole grains, good for you. Look for whole grain rolls. I know this one is hard, but ditch the hot dogs. They contain so many chemicals and questionable items, not to mention tons of sodium. Check your local grocer for all natural chicken or turkey sausages. Lower in fat and much healthier for you. Put a little creativity and thought into your outdoor outings and you'll keep on track with better health!

Lowered Mine Somewhat
Hi Everyone,
I'm from TX, been doing the oatmeal for over a month now, and lowered my blood glucose from 130 to 112, my cholesterol went up 1 point , but, I lowered my LDL from 123 to 106, my triglycerides are what's up on me now. I had HBP but have lowered it down so much that my doc took me off of 1 of my BP meds (I was on 4 kinds)! I'm using Robert Kowalski's method of suppliments and Niacin to do it with and exercise and no salt, no sugar, no fat, NO FUN! LOL! Well, except for "good" fats. Olive oil, omega-3's in suppliment form, no trans fats, but it's also helped me to loose 7 lbs this past month! YES!:)!
He's got the two books out, "The Blood Pressure Cure" and "The New 8-Week Cholesterol Cure". I read those and slowly got the suppliments together and took them and it helped. I've been going to the local Y too and exercising sporatically, my BP got so low that I would feel faint. So, I'm hopefully going to go to exercise more this month with my BP a little higher.
It's very hard to find anything without salt in it or fat or sugar of some kind in the grocery stores! So I've been cooking a lot more than I used to. I live alone, so I didn't like to cook for myself much, it seemed I wasted a lot! I hope to get some encouragement and some ideas from ya'll and hope to give some too!

Charity Walks
Cross-posted from my blog!
Every year since 1997, with the exception of the two years I lived in Illinois, I've taken part in AIDS Walks, first in Syracuse, and then in Minneapolis. I've walked for the March of Dimes as well, and for The Race for the Cure. It's not always been easy, but it's always been good, and I have no intention of stopping as long as I'm upright and reasonably mobile.
For the past few weeks, I've been mulling over the idea of doing my walks with an Eons team. And lo and behold, my newest group, Charity Walks, was born today.
I'm working with Eons to provide shirts to walkers at cost. So far, everything looks good. The teams will be wonderful for the website from a marketing standpoint, and the shirts will be able to be worn to all of our walks.
So, what do I need from you? Help. If you're a member of a regional or a disease or condition related group on Eons, bring this to them. If you're devoted to a cause and enjoy walking for a purpose, join us. This undertaking is going to require a team of dedicated leaders, and I've seen enough goodness on Eons to believe I'm going to find them!

Just Wanted To Say Hi
I thought this would be a good group for me because I have high cholesterol. Right now I am taking medication called zetia and it with diet and exercise should help to lower it. I thought that I should take the 30 day Challenge and I thought that I would find support and inspiration here. I also need to lose some weight and to exercise more but I am working on it.
Oatmeal in Meatloaf
Ok. I tried it. Instead of bread crumbs, I used quaker oats in my meatloaf. Neither my husband or son could tell the difference and it was delicious... yum.. another sneaky nutritional substitution...
Non-Fat Cheese
So what's everyones take on non-fat cheese. We keep it in the house all the time now and the varieties available are getting better. It was a laugh cooking with it initially, ya should have seen my first cheeseburger. I treated it like normal cheese, put it on a burger on the grill, turned around, turned back and it was gone, melted into nothing :^)
I've master that technique now! It sure is different but I've learned to live with it and adapt cooking methods to use it.
Anybody else?
Cheers; Mass
