Vacation Plans

There's no doubt that gas and diesel prices will affect traveling plans this summer. Tell us what you're planning. Are you taking a car vacation instead of RVing? Using the RV but closer to home? Is the RV parked in the driveway waiting for those prices to come down? How are you going to get your money's worth out of your investment?

How do you REALLY feel about fuel prices? economy?

Last night after reading Abmonty's post in the post titled "Summer travels", I really felt fired up over the state of fuel prices and the effect it is having on the US economy. His words mirrored how I am feeling, yet when I read in this room how people are dealing with the crisis, you see things like, "Oh, we just take shorter trips...; I drive 53-3/4 mph, and save a bundle...; or, just don't venture out anymore."

When I read those responses, I would choke! My husband and I are literally "grounded", and the sad part about it, I didn't see it coming... At first I felt like a financial idiot, then sad that we don't get to see the kids and grand-kids, and I too, have taken on pet sitting (zero clients so far) to try and earn a little extra travel money.

Single RV.ing

Hello Everyone,

Would LOVE some advice. I have had 5 RVs in my years. I now have a 2007 Roadtrek, diesel, I want to get a 40 ft. Country Coach 400 diesel.
What can I expect on mileage? The Roadtrek gets 22 to 25 miles per but is WAY to small to travel for long in.
The bottom line, I can afford the coach, but just me is a practical for me to handle.......

Thanks for any help

Summer Travels

Today’s travelers are faced with many different, difficult, and expensive challenges. Like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, we too, as travelers, need to face our worst nightmares and conquer our travel challenges. And with man’s best friend stuck in a basket, lets address some…

There are extremely high recreational vehicle fuel prices, compliments of OPEC, requiring RV owner’s to sell vital body organs to fill their tanks. There’s the even higher airline ticket pricing for sardine cattle-car seats where checked baggage and in-flight stale boxed junk food are added expenses. Seems the only thing still complimentary is the more often than not flight attendants’ sour attitudes. What’s next, require plane passengers to pay to get a key like at gas-stations for toilet privileges (oops, shouldn’t have spelled that one out, they may read this). And the US Dollar is so weak and worthless...(continued in Reply)...

Our "famous" friend

I just came across an article in - get this - USA Today - that quotes our own Lynda Perdew and even mentions EONS!

Here is the link: view link

Congrats on the nice coverage for you and EONS. Wish it had been me and my book!

How did I find it? You all know about Google Alerts don't you? You can get all the news about anything you want by setting an alert for key words - I have one set for "RV Trips" and it picked it up!

What cha doing for the Fourth?

Don`t know about everyone else, but we`re heading for a great SC state park at the beach. Usually spend four or five days at most, but with gas higher we shall spend a week. May everyone have a safe, happy fourth of July.

We've made it halfway there!

We left Sheridan, WY for the drive over the mountains to Greybull this morning. Not knowing what kind of roads to expect, we had divided the drive from Sheridan to Yellowstone into two days. The drive up the mountains was a piece of cake. Then we had 18 miles of DOWN and CURVES! I could smell hot brakes. Hope they were on the truck in front of us. We were throwing out the anchor before we reached bottom. Ninety-seven miles but that was enough for one day. BTW, the scenery is spectacular.

Over the next mountains tomorrow. Maybe there will be less down then.

Long Term Car Storage

Hey all,
Let me throw something out to the forum. I'm heading out in a couple months for an extended trip. Four to six months, maybe longer if I can find a work camper gig.
I'd like any advice you'd share about prepping the car I won't be taking for long term storage. If it was a couple months I wouldn't sweat it. But if I get on the road and hook up with The Swedish Bikini Team or something I don't want to get home covered in cocoa butter a year later to find a lot of problems with my poor little car.
It's a '04 PT Cruiser, fuel injected, turbo.
I keep it under a carport and I'm not concerned with cold weather as I live in Florida. Besides a good wash and wax, polish up the chrome and Armor-all the crap out of everything, I'm also guessing a fresh oil change would be smart.
So, fill the tank full and use a fuel stabilizer or will that be bad for something?
Cover the tires or don't bother, since it's not in the sun?
Jack it up off the wheels?
Winters are pretty dry here. Should I crack a widow and let a little air circulate?
So wadda ya think ?

#1 or #2 or ULSD?

Our diesel MH can use either the old diesel or the new ULSD. I understand that much. But out west here I'm seeing more stations labeling #2 diesel separate from their regular diesel pumps. What is #2 diesel? Is it different from the old stuff or the new stuff?

Please help. I don't know which lane to get in!
