Our Military Heroes

I know many of you have husbands, wives, children, siblings, friends, grandchildren in the military - I thought this would be a nice place to share your thoughts, pictures of them or just information regarding our heroes in general. A nice tribute to our military.

What This Group Is About

The members of this group are great folks who really care about Our Military Heroes. We have, however, had to delete several messages due to the content of them. One was a dating site, another was posted by an author selling her book, some were politically related to the war and the president and some just used inappropriate language. While I'm sure the author did this with good intentions we cannot have anyone making a personal profit from this group or use language that may be offensive to others.

This group was started as a way to honor our heroes, and the majority of our members have always done that. In any event, we do not want to make light of what this group is about. I ask that if any of you see something that would be considered in bad taste to please contact either the manager or one of the moderators via a PM so it can be taken care of.

Thank you very much - and we hope you enjoy being here!

We love our heroes!

Birthday Card Shower update

I, too, have been away on vacation so I apologize for not being able to post any info. Jason, did, in fact call the first week we were at the beach and mentioned in the conversation that he had gotten cards from people at church and even from someone in Alaska (that would be Valley from Valley's coffee shop). I then explained to him what I had done and he estimated at the time he had received at least 30 cards. I sent him a motomail just now and hope he can give me another update.

Thanks for all your support and participation.

While at the beach I approached a group of fellas and as I had guessed they were from Camp Lejeune. They are being deployed in Aug to Aphganistan. One was from New Jersey, two from Florida and the other was close to me, Oak Lawn, Illinois. I shook each of their hands and thanked them for serving our country.

Glad to be home - still playing catch up with mail, the jungle in my yard and the clutter inside - but anxious to be able to once again check on my groups and keep everyone posted.

My Military Hero

As you all may recall, my current military hero, Justin, just got back from Iraq after a second tour - about a month ago.

He came back to Michigan last week and got married tonight. I was so honored to attend his beautiful wedding. I hope to have some pictures within the next couple of days to post.

Worth Reading

I AM YOUR FLAG
I was born on June 14, 1777.
I am more than just cloth shaped into a design.
I am the refuge of the world's oppressed people.
I am the silent sentinel of freedom.
I am the emblem of the greatest sovereign nation on earth.
I am the inspiration for which American patriots gave their lives and fortunes.
I have led your sons into battle from Valley Forge to the bloody ridges of Vietnam and now into Iraq.
I walk in silence with each of your honored dead to their final resting place beneath the silent white crosses row upon row.
I have flown through peace and war, strife and prosperity.
My red stripes...symbolize the blood spilled in defense of this glorious nation.
My white stripes...signify the burning tears shed by Americans who lost their sons.
My blue field...is indicative of God's Heaven under which I fly.
My stars...clustered together unify 50 states as one, for God and country.
(Old Glory) is my nickname, and proudly I wave on high.
Honor me, respect me, defend me with your lives and your fortunes.
Never let my enemies tear me down from my lofty position lest I never return.
Keep alight the fires of patriotism, strive earnestly for the spirit of your republic.
Worship eternal God and keep His commandments.
And I shall remain the Bulwark of Peace and Freedom for all mankind.

Update

...on my two 19-year-old grandson/soldiers. As you know, they both joined the Army the end of last year and have been in boot camp and training schools. Now they have both been given bases and assignments. One will to to Hawaii and within a short time off to Iraq.. and the other is in Washington for further training then off to Afghanistan. One is home on leave right now.. surprised us all on Friday.. and what a wonderful surprise that was. Both are still 19.. seems unreal to me.. but am still a proud Grandma... but of course I will worry, too.

Been Away for a While Also

Hello Friends

It is good to see all the posts. I just wanted to let you know that my step-grandson Michael will be leaving Tuesday for boot camp at Fort Bennings Georgia. I had written about him a while back. He had been in the ROTC for many years and just graduated from high school a few weeks ago but had joined the Army quite some time ago. I am praying God's watch, care and protection over him as well as all of our brave heroes. Please pray for Michael and the family as this brave young man leaves to start a new path in his life in the Army.

Justin, My Current Hero

My current, hero, Justin, who just got back from Iraq a little over a month ago was back in town and in church today for the first time since his return. It was so nice to see him.

He is getting married next Saturday, so I will try to take some pictures to post of him and his new wife. He will be wearing his uniform for the wedding, which should be very lovely.

He was told, that even tho he re-upped - he does not have to worry about going back to Iraq - which I hope remains true - but you all know how those plans can sometimes to astray - so hopefully our prayers will help that from happening.
