What It Means to Be an American

This was sent to me and thought it was so true...

awesome picture

To believe in the promise
of a better tomorrow,
and stand united in our efforts
to give a peaceful nation
to our children...

To honor each other's differences
and cherish the richness of our history,
even as it continues to unfold
from sea to shining sea...

To love deeply
our friends and family, day by day,
and never take for granted
the privilege of calling ourselves American.

Memories

Good Day Myspace Comments

I'm taking a walk down memory lane as I know my brother has most likely had his surgery today. He is having a kidney removed.
He has cut me out of his life,I hear about him through my daughter, his daughter & mine are best friends.
So,I am hoping the best for him.And having some mixed emotions as I have to accept the reality of not having him in my life no matter what happens.

Childhood July 4th memories

Every year from age 8 to 15 we would go to Fireman's Field Days.It was a local celebration. For 3 days an empty field was transformed into fun rides and those great carnival smells.
Our family had very few real outings so this was really special.I loved the rides. The ferris wheel and the tilt-a-whirl were my favorite.
When I was 13 I had my first boyfriend.I remembering going on the rides with him and having the best time. The last year I went I met him there and we had alot of fun.We were supposed to meet and watch the fireworks together.
I was at the spot at the time we planned and he never showed.I cried myself to sleep that night.
The next school day he handed me a note saying his family wanted to leave before the fireworks and they didn't give him time to find me and tell me.
It's funny this many years later and I still remember that night and how heartbroken I was.
So if you have a teen in your life going through a heart break, try to be understanding. What they feel is real.I cried into a pillow that night, how I wish it could've been my mom instead.

Celebrate!!!!

I still love the fireworks as if I were a kid. I usually watch on TV now, though.

Happy 232nd Birthday AMERICA!

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare of freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for halcyon skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the enameled plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till souls wax fair as earth and air
And music-hearted sea!

O beautiful for pilgrims feet,
Whose stem impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till paths be wrought through
wilds of thought
By pilgrim foot and knee!

O beautiful for glory-tale
Of liberating strife
When once and twice,
for man's avail
Men lavished precious life!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till selfish gain no longer stain
The banner of the free!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till nobler men keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!

Have a woderful day!!
