July 7th

One year ago today I adopted Delilah. This was the best thing I have ever done!

The day I got Delilah, I heard the sighs of her heart. I took the time to stop and listen. That is why she's here with me. Oh and by the way, I don't own her....She owns me!!!!

I found this on the Black Lab page and liked it.

" I can't do enough to make a difference for every dog in the world, But I can do all I know how to make a world of difference for my Delilah"

Harley goes to a bar!

Tonight was just so cool! We took Harley to a fantastic outdoor Italian restaurant, and he was so good. For most of the time, he just lay beside my Hubster. When he got up, we told him to sit, then down, then gave him a teensy piece of delicious bread as a reward. We were at the restaurant for about 2 hours. (La Maria in Landstuhl)

When we left, we decided to visit the Red Lion Bar about a block away. When we got there, the outer doors were open and we got a table right inside. A guy was there with his pet snake, Fred. Lots of people petted Harley, and both me and the Hubs petted and held Fred. (Fred was a boa, about 24 inches long, 1 1/2 years old, just a little sweetie snake) Harley at first wanted to sniff Fred, but then he seemed pretty uninterested in him, even when Fred went to sleep in his arms. Harley seemed to be saying "Whats this? a PET snake? Hmmph! I want a wild snake to bite, not a pet, Fred is kinda cool." :)

Around 10pm they closed the outer doors, and cranked up the music. Harley was a super-angelic dog, he just laid on the floor, wagged his tail, and was a "chick magnet" since The Hubs had his leash. (When I have his leash, he turns into a Dude Magnet) At one point 3 women were sitting on the floor of the bar petting him and hanging all over him...(that is Harley, NOT The Hubs, ha!) The bar had a pool table, clean restrooms, great music, big video screen, and cold beer. Mostly this was an American bar, although a few German nationals were there, and also British folks. We met new friends, and saw old ones.

This was Harley's first trip to both this particular restaurant and a bar of any kind. This was a GREAT night for all of us!

MAMA MIA

Mama Mia gave birth to eight beautiful chocolate labradors Sunday night! 63 days is the average gestation time. That would be Thursday. So I took Friday off work. And we paced. She went outside, I went outside. She dug a pit under the deck, I told her I don't think so...We took walks, she sniffed, she peed. Sunday morning at dawn, I knew this was it. She had her first pup at 11am. I'm thinkin, sweet...we should be all wrapped up by supper time.
That pup got one on one, and the licking to last a lifetime for five hours. I'm thinking, come on littermates, someone has to come out and share the Love! Second through fifth pups came between six and seven o'clock! Took Mia outside for a break, at 11 o'clock she had number seven outside on the grass. Time for refreshing, cleaning up, and number eight came down the pike at 1 AM.
I took photos. I will share.
Five females, and three males. Great grandma Snickers went in for a sniff this AM.
I'm exhausted, Mia is great, the pups are beautiful.

I'm happy now

Maddy may have those babies out on the concrete, but she has a whelping box that my husband made this morning. He even put little pieces of wood across the corners so the puppies wouldn't get stuck in a corner. And he sanded all the edges smooth and made a little entry into the box. It's too cool for school! Now to get those babies here.........

Sorry I've Not Been Around Much

I have a sick dog - my little Dachsund Thibodeaux - he has a shoulder injury and its quite painful so he is drawing the majority of my attention these days - with carrying him to go potty, massaging/accupressure/ heat therapy and making sure he turns over now and then so he doesn't get sore or stiff - he is taking quite a bit of my time.

And all of his needs must be met ever so gently as it is quite painful - and if I make it hurt too much - he bites - he has got me twice so far - but I cannot fault him. He is on pain meds, anti-inflammatories and glucosamine chondroitin. Hopefully we will begin to see improvement soon. The little dude is 13 years old and this is rather hard on him.

This isn't Lab related but I just got this email from my 31 year old son - and I have to tell someone!!

I got up this morning and checked my email and this is what my son wrote to me - it is very typical of him - understated but able to knock you to the floor at the same time
