Just Plain Chatting

This group is for those of us that like clean neighborly chats. We post and reply using our own words. Graphics and long cut and paste stories are not allowed in day to day posts. On holidays and member's birthdays we create one post for all greetings and graphics to be placed in the reply. We welcome personal and pet photos. Let's get to chatting! : )

Welcome to Just Plain Chatting!

I'm glad you are here with us! I'm sure the beautiful weather and real life plans will keep many of us from being online every day. I fall into that group myself. Just stop in and say hi when you can. : )

If you are new here please add your birtday to our birthday post so we can celebrate with you. We also have a thread called "What's Cookin'?". This is to share and find favorite recipes. I try to keep both of these near the top for easy access.

Let me take a moment to thank each and every member for making this group the fun and friendly place that it is. A special thanks goes to petlovraz for being such a great moderator.

I like to keep the following links on the front page for easy access. You can choose your favorite organization or click them all. It's so easy to combine our love of being online with our friends and our compassion for others.

Very Nervous Today

My sister goes in to get a scan today. She has a tumor on her spinal cord. The last time the doctors shot dye into her, we almost lost her. She's very allergic to all different things. Now their going to do it again (different doctors). This is the only way they get a good look at the tumor.

Will be keeping my fingers crossed that there is problems.

Wow...where does the time go

The summer is flying by, that's for sure. Can you believe it's almost the end of July? As I've gotten older, time just seems to fly by. As a kid, summer seemed to last forever. Especially, I remember the summer between my 6th and 7th grade year. We moved to a new home and I had no friends because we left right after the end of the school year. I had to spend the summer just being around the house with no friends. I remember being so bored. Each day seemed to last an eternity. I did join the local swimming pool and went there alot. I was able to talk to some of the kids. Still, no real friends until I started junior high in September.

WOW...now I blink an eye and the entire month of July is almost gone! Is it like this with you guys? Do you feel like...wow, where does the time go?

Memories

I was sitting on my daughter's porch this afternoon watching the kids play with their friends. They were playing ring around the rosy, tag and riding bikes. It made me think of simpler times when we used to lay in the grass and find shapes in the clouds. (Ok. I still do that.) I remember when it was a big deal to get the hose out and squirt each other with it. (I don't think I even knew what a pool was!) I remember how my brother and I made up our own "language" because everyone could understand pig latin.

Walk down memory lane with me. What were some of your favorite things to do when you were younger?

July 17th...2 months with me

Well...Shamus, my little Bichon/Poodle in my profile picture, has been with me here in my home for 2 months. He still isn't housebroken. But, we do have days when he makes it the entire day without anything happening in the house. I've found that I have to keep him more confined than I originally did. In the evenings, I am here in this room by the computer. It's my 2nd bedroom and my office/guest room. I close the door and keep all 3 of the dogs in the room. Then I take them outside and they all do their business before bedtime. And, Shamus does hold it when I'm gone and he's behind the gate that separates the area of the house where the dogs stay when I'm not home. He will only hold it for about 4 to 5 hours, max. Still this is progress. I just keep plugging away at training him. I have faith that he'll learn to be housebroken in a few months. It's hard to break the bad potty habits he had when I brought him home.

Two Good Happenings

This week at the Shelter we had two super adoptions happen. We had a cat named Oreo who was surrendered to the Shelter in July of 2007!!! After a while, she was able to live in the Cat Lounge which is a room set up for spayed/neutered cats who get along with other cats since they have the run of the room and are not caged. But she tended to get a bit moody, especially around little kids and so she didn't show herself to her best advantage, shall we say. But, miracles of miracles, she was adopted right before her one year anniversary by a lovely woman and her teenage son. Oreo took a liking to the son immediately and won the hearts of both of these folks.
Then we had our second miracle. We had a Pit Bull mix named Baby who was surrendered in December of 2007. Baby had a tough time because she needed knee surgery. We were able to raise the funds for her surgery through donations and she was successfully operated on in February. After spending a couple of months in foster care to recuperate, Baby came back to the Shelter and was back on the Adoption floor. Other dogs came and were adopted, but Baby remained with us. One family was interested but was concerned about how Baby would react with their cats, so the Shelter Staff offered to let them foster Baby for a week or so to see how it went. And the cats didn't like her and she didn't much care for them either. So back to the Shelter came Baby. And just in time!! Because today a woman came in who has no cats and wanted a companion dog and she and Baby were a great match. So Baby has gone to what we all hope will be her new loving forever home!!

How did you spend your 4th of July?

I went over to my daughter's Thursday night. The rest of the family came over Friday for a BBQ. We all went to a park for fireworks and fun in the evening. It was a great show this year! The firemen that are on hand there every year gave out toy hats and light sticks to the little ones. I wound up staying with my daughter another night and got home a little while ago.

What did you do? I hope you had as much fun as I did. : )

Where did everybody go?

Are most of the Eons members all on vacation at the same time? I have another small group with just 29 members. That one is a seasonal group so I was just going to pm the members to let them know we're getting active again. Any how. 15 of the members had "no recent activity" on their profile! I wonder how far back recent activity goes. Now I'm curious. I'm going to have to see if the members in this group have taken a long break from Eons too. lol

Cool treats

Does anyone know of any recipes for easy and cool treats in the summer? I made one of those cakes with jello in it for the 4th of July and everyone loved it! It went so fast it made me want to make more cool treats for them.

Good Morning Everyone

I'm back from the valley and posting a picture of my son in the photo section.

It was a great ceremony and I got lots of pictures. We had a big party after the graduation. Friday we tried to go to the St. Paul Rodeo, but we didn't get tickets ahead of time and they sold out. So got some for Saturday night.

The grandkids got to ride the ponies. That was the main reason for going.

Hope everyone has a great day. I'm a very proud mom and so very happy for my son.
