Do those of you who live on the islands actually do something special for Aloha Fridays? Is it recognized as a special day or just a TGIF thing for the tourists?

What makes Hawaii different in the fall?
I am curious as the leaves don't change colors and the temp is fairly even all year round. Does it rain more or is it cooler? We have always gone in the summer so the kids would be out of school.
