Hi Everyone, Newbie Here!
Glad to meet all of you. This looked like an interesting site, I'm sure I will get alot of ideas.
Where do you sleep?
I was wondering where you stay now if not in your own home. Sometimes home ownership isn't all it's cracked up to be. It seems all you do is work to pay for the house and work to clean and maintain a house. Since my kids are grown, I'd like to try an RV or a houseboat!
A condo is not best for everyone
About 3 years ago I purchased a 1 bedroom condo, a fixer upper, there are some real draw backs though to owning one. First of all, their rules, you might wish to upgrade, put in some things like a dishwasher or washer/dryer combo, in my case, the washer/dryer combo is not allowed as I asked. Why do I wish to purchase a house? Well...no rules, I won't hear neighbors coming in all hours of the night, if I want a light bulb changed I can change it without having to wait months for maintenance to change it. I just recently had a squirrel problem in the attic, the maintenance company swore there was no hole, the pest guy said, yes there was, so they finally patched it yesterday. But omg, just getting maintenance to do anything here is a real hassle. Plus the condo fees they charge per month are not cheap.
My goal is to own a house, not even a big house, just something small and cozy. Now, I will be turning 57 this year and next year is when I wish to purchase one, sell the condo. My bf however is much younger and since he will probably be going in with me on the mortgage, I think my chances of getting approved for a loan are far better than on my own.
Anyways, just looking online for a house keeps me happy at this point and keeps my dream alive. I know I am in for higher taxes, and heating bills and such, but not having to pay a high condo fee on top of my mortgage will be great, and not having to get up early to move my car from the parking lot so they can plow in the winter, also will be a plus. I want a house so I can have a garden, grow my own vegetables, have a yard to sit in, get a couple of lawn chairs, have an ice tea, well...you know, the American Dream. I had a house before my divorce and am determined to save and get another, it may not be as big, it may not even have as much land, but that is ok. It is the little things in life that matter, and big is not always better, but having your own place to call home whether it be just a small place would definitely satisfy me. I'm actually looking forward to home ownership again.

how do you sell a home?
Hi all,
We are trying to sell a home and just don't know how to do it or which forum to use. We feel there may be seniors out there who would be interested but so far 2 realtors have not found them. Any ideas?

Housing Market
My husband and I have been in financial trouble in the past and owned a home. We had to file bankruptcy due to financial reasons. We now have good credit and have had for a while. At this point in our age I am afraid to buy another home. There is no way a bank will lend a 30 year mortgage to someone over the age of 50. This is the only way someone our age could afford a home at the prices they are selling at. We have been renting for the past 7 years and I am tired of it. I just keep looking hoping to find something we could afford. Besides that, how could you come up with a 10% down payment on a house in the area where we live ($30,000 on a $300,000 home) unless you take the money out of your retirement. I don't think so.

Hello, everyone
My family and I had a relatively nice house near Colorado Springs at one time. But I go laid off from a good job and lost the house to foreclosure. Since then, we lived in rentals that have not been very good. We live a single wide trailer that is ok, but leaks a bit and the mobile park management is poor. This a rent-to-own contract, but for the rent we are now having to pay, we could do much nicer. Like many, we have trouble finding lenders due to our credit situation. We don't have a yard and no real access to a storm shelter. We live in the Fort Worth-Dallas area.
Single Family Home
We are trying to rent or sell a year old home in Myrtle Beach, SC. Does anyone know of a unique way to advertise? I was wondering if there was a journal or seniors newspaper geared toward the 50+ age group.
