Welcome to the group
Freedom of Speech is not a right per the TOU of this website. But, it does go hand in hand with personal responsibility and accountability. Remember the Golden Rule “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.
We will delete or end discussions for the following reasons at FOS:
1. Posts that violate eons TOU. Read them when in doubt.
2. At the request of a member who wants his or her own post deleted for their own reasons.
3. Cross-posting. It is pointless. It dilutes dialogue.
4. When further discussion is not necessary and has been beaten to death.
5. When a new thread's subject is already being discussed.
We will delete replies to a post that we consider “baiting”, sarcastic or name calling and serve no purpose at all. Please remember this “rule”: reply to the post, not the poster”.
PLEASE keep the initial post to a short paragraph or two. Put the rest in the first reply. This courtesy makes it possible to showcase many posts on page one – not just yours!!
WHEN SOMEONE IS BEING A DOOFUSS OR SAYS SOMETHING YOU DON'T LIKE - IGNORE THEM. NOTHING YOU CAN OR WILL SAY WILL CHANGE THEIR MIND.

The Myth of the Global Jihadist Threat
I was saying this 6 years ago. As for those who desparately NEED enemies to give meaning to their lives, disregard and instead tune in to Ann Coultier.
"Islamic terrorism, we’re often told, is the gravest threat faced by America and the world. As a longtime CAI officer involved in combating the jihadist threat, said Glenn L. Carle, I can assure you that most of what politicians have told us about al Qaida is a delusion. In reality, “Osama bin Laden and his disciples are small men and secondary threats whose shadows are made large by our fears.” Al Qaida is now a depleted organization whose abilities to mount complex terrorist attacks on the U.S. are “far inferior to its desires.” Only a handful of individuals in the group are capable of planning and executing such attacks. As for the nuclear threat often cited by peddlers of terrorist nightmares, the chances al Qaida could obtain and deploy a nuclear weapon are vanishingly small. Like the anarchists of the late 19th century, Islamic terrorists will occasionally detonate a conventional bomb and kill dozens or hundreds of people, and we are wise to hunt and arrest these “dupes of true belief.” But it’s nonsensical to base our entire foreign policy - and our constitutional rights - on waging a “global war on terror.” Instead, we should recognize the jihadist “for the small, lethal, disjointed, and miserable opponents that they are."

Girls and Body Image
The "Ann Coultier" post ended up with Linda Hamilton ( a great improvement, by the way ). But I guess I feel a bit guilty for my lusting after the skinny and oh-so-buff Linda in "Terminator 2".
I think this generation of girls has a terrible problem with body image, and it's due to the ultra-skinny models and / or fitness-crazy stars. It is really sad.
My oldest daughter is 25 and does marathons, triathalons, and an even crazier 31 mile cross country run that happens every year in D.C.
She is amazingly "buff" and thin, but still has problems thinking she is fit enough !!!!
My youngest is similar: Knock-dead gorgeous and slim but always saying she's getting "fat"
It's a national disease in my opinion, and I think it needs to be addressed.

Mexican Corruption...Today's Question.
Saw a blurb on TV the other day where it was stated that over 70% of all Mexican Towns and Cities are totally under the control of the Drug Cartels. The Mexican Government has become so corrupt and riddled with incompetence that even the Army is suspect.
The point of the program was that most US Aid Dollars are ending up in the hands of the people we are trying to stop...
My answer to Illegal Immigration has always been that good governance and jobs there is the only thing that will cure the problem.
Other than direct US Military Involvment...what are any positive things that can be done ?????

Obama in Afghanistan?
Other than being purely politically expedient, why is he there, and why is he talking to Karzai?
Free Speech extends to trial sentence
Testing the limits of freedom of speech, a young man in Rhode Island was arrested for DUI. Pending his court case, he donned a prison outfit for a neighborhood party to jest about the impending potential of jail time for his crime. Of course, one of his friends took a picture and put it on a blog site. The prosecutor got wind of the picture and presented it to the judge at the trial as proof the young man was not repentant of the crime. The defendant got jail time instead of a corrective counseling program. He is appealing the sentence as a violation of his rights of free speech. The judge obviously wasn't amused or much impressed by the First Amendment. .
Ann Coultier Quote
"I love to engage in repartee with people who are stupider than I am."
Never mind. . .it's just too easy.

Did George Orwell have it right?
Did George Orwell have it right but too early in "1984"?
Come on in and read about my feelings on the recently changed Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (aka: FISA).
