Kyle Passes Over The Bridge
I wanted to let everyone know that Kyle died. If you all recall, he was one of my two schnauzergodsons, Reggie being the other and I often sent in pictures of him. He spent weekends here many times, and stayed with us when his mom traveled. As he got older, he became more difficult to deal with, as he was aggressive, so for her most recent trip she got a person to babysit him at her home. I'm attaching a picture to this message, so you all can see him.
Reggie's mom called me last night. She got home from Europe with her daughter on Tuesday night, after having been gone for 2 weeks. She told me that 4 days after she left, Kyle died. She said the day she was leaving she took him to the vet with Reggie to get their nails trimmed, which really stresses Kyle out, and Kyle (who saw a vet cardiologist for heart problems) went into seizures there, and his heart stopped. The vet got his heart going again, and had her leave him for a few hours for observation. She didn't want to leave him at the vet's office while she was gone, as it would've been too expensive.
The person who babysat the dogs at her house said Kyle woudn't eat after she left. I asked if she gave Kyle his heart pills, which he lived on, and she said probably not since he wouldn't eat. He wouldn't eat for 4 days, and then on that Saturday he died at home.
Reggie was there when Kyle died, so he knows what happened, and he won't be looking for him to come home. He had closure.
Kyle was black and silver, and we believed him to be half schnauzer, half cocker spaniel. He was 13 years old when he died. He was adopted from a rescue group when he was 4 years old.
I'll post another picture of him.

2nd time around
Hi Schnauzer lovers,
We adopted a sweet little schnauzer female puppy last spring from the Humane Society. She was only about 3 months old at the most when we got her. Now at age 9 months she still loves children, people and other dogs. Our first schnauzer didn't like any of the above. But, she always stayed with us. We could let her out in the front yard and she would not leave the yard, even when chasing away other dogs, squirrels, etc.
We cannot trust our new little girl, Sassy. She will start out smelling around, and then go running. When we call her she runs faster! One time she did come back when I laid down in the grass and acted like I was playing with something and called her. That was a pretty neat trick, but, she doesn't fall for that trick anymore. We've got to find a way to get her to come when we call her. HELP!

Summertime fun
Bentley has an obsession with the water hose and being sprayed. Sunday, after mowing the lawn, I needed to water, so I drug out the hose [from the place he can't get to it] and set up the sprinkler. After turning on the water I started to go inside for a bit when he bolted out of the door. He was in doggie heaven when he saw that sprinkler!
Allergies
Hello!
I too have a doggie with allergies. We really have to watch what Gus eats because of them. So he is on a duck and potato kibble and does really well.
However, he still scratches although he is flealess. I am going to ask my vet if there isn't something holistic he can take as well and order from a place I have used products from in the past. In the meantime, this website might help you. view link
I have used their products in the past for my birds and had wonderful results. I hope this will help in some way.
Love that doggie! Cindy

"Mr. Jingles"
I have to admit, for our first group of dogs we kept them "naked". In other words, when at home in the house, they had no collars on. Collars meant a car ride. [We lived in the country and had nearly 3 acres of fenced yard, and they never went out without one of us with them - think rattlesnakes in Florida.] So, collars have never been anything we've messed with much.
Until we got Bentley. Grabbing his collar is sometimes the only way we can get his attention. But, his collar has a name - Mr. Jingles - because his tag jingles. Now, having never been around a dog that has worn a collar 24/7, his attachment to his collar is funny. If that collar comes off for any reason, he goes nuts and tries to get back to it. If you slip it off and hold it open, he jams his head back through it to get it back on. Sometimes he jumps and is quite accurate in getting that head through that collar. If you take his collar off and put it up somewhere out of his line of sight, he will sniff around and try to "tree" it and then pace around until he drives you crazy enough to get it back down and put it back on him. SOMEtimes he can be distracted away from it, but not very often. Mr. Jingles is part of his identity, part of his smell.
He's so opposite a Maltese that we had. Tory found collars confining, so much so that when we put one on her this animated fun-loving white dog turned in to a statue and wouldn't move. She just SAT there as if inside a really small clear box. The moment you took the collar off zoooooooooooooooooom. Collar on - statue.
Anyone else have any quirks of their little furkids?

Welcome Gigi and Coco
We are so glad that you have joined us. Please feel free to post comments and pictures or ask questions. I don't know what to tell you in regards to the stress reaction. Is Coco possibly picking up stress in you when other dogs are around (stress as to how Coco might react)? Maybe someone else has had similar experiences with that.
Orio doesn't care for other dogs to much but will put up with other schnauzers. I don't know why. She get very "tuff" when we are walking and meets another dog. I am just trying to get her to walk past without a growly/barky match. Sometimes it works.
Hope you enjoy our group.

Schnauzer Fearful of other Dogs~~
We have a three year old adorable schnauzie. First, some of her history that we have found out. Her brood was rejected by the mom and she was raised by a Yorkie. She may have been the runt; and therefore, we think that maybe she developed anxiety about other puppies stealing her food or running roughshod over her.
She, like any healthy Schnauzer, barks at the window and children/people passing from her "perch" on the backside/top of the sofa. She also goes up there to greet us when we arrive. She loves her "perch". The problem is that we have taken her to our son's house in N. Carolina where they have two new puppies--a Maltese (more dominant) and a lovely brown Lab. She never would make friends with them and would stay up on the couch while we sat on the couch. She made sure that she was always away from the dogs. Now, my grad school daughter has returned home until she gets a job and she has a new puppy--a Schnoodle. Willow, is 4 months old, is still afraid to walk on leash and hardwood floor, cannot walk that well up steps yet. We thought that the little almost helpless puppy might bring out a maternal instinct in our Coco. Coco played along and was trying to coax Willow
and kind of show her how to walk on our walk last night. She seemed okay and we thought that we had hope that Coco would not act so afraid around the new arrival. But if the little puppy goes near her with her tail wagging Coco will still jump up on the couch out of distance from the puppy. We are hoping that each day with positive interactions that Coco will realize that there is nothing to be afraid of.
The puppy is really very good, not too rambunctious and has slept quietly through the night and is going potty outside. Our Coco is a very smart, loving dog with only this anxiety issue. What do you all think? Do you have any tips as to how to deal with our Cowardly Coco??? Please help...we very much appreciate any suggestions.

Sassy Sue
Hello Schnauzer Lovers,
We have a sweet little schnauzer that we got from the local humane society. She is about 6 months old now. She LOVES kids, adults and most other dogs! We are hoping to keep her that way and take her to see people and dogs as often as possible.
Our last schnauzer loved us very much, but didn't like other people, especially children, or other dogs. It really upset me because we do have grandchildren and they were so afraid of her. We don't live close to any of our grandchildren, so she never got use to them.
The problem with our little "Sassy Sue" is that she loves everyone so much that she would run away if she could. (I'm sure that's why she was at the Humane Society.)
She has gotten away from us several times and we have had to go find her. Our other "little girl" never left our yard, even our front yard with no fence. She would chase squirrels, dogs, cats, you name it. But, she would always stop before going into the street.
We love our little "Sassy Sue" and hope we can keep her safe!
