NEW RECIPE

I found this barbecue sauce and it is fantastic.

CHERRY COLA BARBECUE SAUCE

1 tbsp vegetable oil
2 cups chopped onions
2 garlic cloves,minced
2 12-ounce bottle (ketchup-style) chili
sauce (I use Heinz)
1 12- to 13-ounce jar cherry preserves
or jam
1 cup cherry cola (regular, not diet) (this is also good
with Dr Pepper cherry vanilla drink)
1/3 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
1/4 cup balsalmic vinegar
1 tsp (or more) hot pepper sauce

Heat oil in heavy large saucepan over medium heat.
Add onions, saute until golden, about 7 minutes.
Add garlic and stir 1 minute. Stir in chili sauce,
preserves, cherry cola, brown sugar and vinegar;
bring to simmer, stirrin occasionally. Reduce heat to
medium lows; simmer uncovered until reduced to 4 cups,
stirring often to prevent scorching, about 50 minutes.
Stir in 1 tsp hot pepper sauce and more if desired.
Season to taste with salt and pepper and more hot sauce
if desired. Transfer to bowl and cool ahead. This can be
made 2 weeks ahead. Cover and refigerate.

This is good on chicken and ribs. Also good for a base
in slow cooker for pulled pork sandwiches.

ENJOY Cheryl

New twist on plastic in the microwave

My hubster has good intentions. Really. It's just that sometimes his intentions backfire in unforeseen ways.

This and That Salad

Hi folks,

This is something I just dreamed up a couple of days ago.

This and That Salad

1 bag frozen shelled edamame
1 10 oz. bag whole kerrnel corn
1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 medium onion (I used valdilla, but a red onion would look nice alsoO
1 bell pepper, any color
1 cucumber peeled
1 cup celery chopped
1 bottle of any kind of vinegrette or seasame salad dressing

Cook the edamame according to package directions. Chill under running water. I a lagre bowl mix all ingerdients together. Chill and eat. I is even better the second day.

You can change the beans out for any other beans.
I have made this with green peas instead of the edamame, added zuccini left out the cucumber...it works any way you do it and is easy, simple and quick, and in the summer can work as a full meal with some crackers.

NO PLASTIC IN THE MICROWAVE!!

Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins University

"Please circulate this article to everyone important to you."

No plastic containers in micro
No water bottles in freezer.
No plastic wrap in microwave...

A dioxin chemical causes cancer, especially breast cancer.
Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.
He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers.
This especially applies to foods that contain fat.
He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.
Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So, such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something glass.
Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.
He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons...
Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.
Cover food with a paper towel instead.

CHOCOLATE CAKE USING SAUERKRAUT??

"Has anyone ever heard of making chocolate cake using sauerkraut? Someone sent me this recipe saying their German family has made this for years. She said she thought it gave the cake the taste of coconut. I have yet to try it. If you try this, or have already tried it, please let us know what you think."

2/3 cup butter
1-1/3 cups white sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2-1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/4 cups water
2/3 cup drained and chopped sauerkraut

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 8-inch pans, round or square.

Thoroughly cream together butter and sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
Sift together cocoa, flour, baking powder, soda, and salt; add alternately with water to egg mixture.
Stir in the sauerkraut. Pour batter into prepared pans.

Bake for 30 minutes or until a wooden pick comes out clean. Frost with your favorite chocolate, or white frosting.

NEW USE FOR WINDEX

Ever had a grape juice, or grape jelly stain on your clothing or carpeting?
Simply saturate it with Windex. Let it soak in for a few minutes, then place a clean, dry towel on top, and weigh it down with something heavy until it soaks up all the liquid. Works like a charm. The most that might happen is that you'll have to repeat it a second time.

How do I know?
One of the grandkids dropped a blob of jelly out of his sandwich onto our light gray carpeting this weekend. I was trying not to show my panic when his Mom said "Oh, this happens at our house all the time. Where's your Windex?"

Now we all know.
