The Amazingly Compact Member Guide
v 0.7
1. I expect everyone to act their age. Arguments are fine, insults are not. Multiple violations will result in negative consequences.
2. Just because someone dangles bait in front of your face doesn't mean you have to swallow it. This is not about who gets the last word in or who can be a bigger jerk. Act like your Mama raised you right.
3. Sweeping generalizations such as "all you Republicans" or "those liberals" or whatever are to be avoided. Such generalizations are almost always wrong, and are usually just indirect insults. (See Rule #1 above.)
4. Please do not cross-post. (Place the same message in more than one group) It just wastes space, and reduces the “signal to noise ratio.”
5. When starting a new topic, please place all text beyond the first couple of paragraphs in the first reply.
6. Over in the Files Section there is a Document Reference Page, (an HTML page that your browser can open) with links to The Constitution, The Federalist Papers, etc. Feel free to use them or to suggest additions to the page.
Above all, let’s keep it enjoyable!

French Students Beaten, Stabbed, Set on Fire

LONDON: French Students Beaten, Stabbed, Set on Fire - Death
Speaking on English TV, Deputy Chief Inspector Mick Duthie said young French students now fear to walk in London neighborhood parks.
Unknown number of weak, disgusting low lives beat up, stabbed, and set ablaze two 23 year old French students in London. More of the same terrible evil that infects this planet.
"There is no doubt that the nature of this attack was anti-French".
“We cannot find anything in these two young men's background to suggest they were involved in any criminality, that they had done anything wrong," Deputy Chief Inspector Duthie said.
The bodies of Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez, both 23, were found in a ground-floor flat in New Cross, southeast London, on Sunday night. They had suffered a total of 243 stab wounds to the head, neck and chest before being set alight.
Mr Duthie said the postgraduate students had been in London since the beginning of May and were due to return to France at the end of July. The deputy mayor of Clermont-Ferrand, where the pair studied, Bernard Dantal, said hearing the news had been "like being hit over the head".
“It was a HATE CRIME!!!” one hysterical person claimed. “To elevate one crime over another because of who the victim is, or what we imagine is in the mind of the attacker(s), is to depreciate all other victims” countered a rational voice.

ASTOUNDING NUMBER OF TERRORISTS HAVE BEEN IN US PRISONS: Our Porous Borders
Posted: 07 Jul 2008 07:43 AM CDT
The routine is that whenever (or where ever) terrorists are caught they get fingerprinted and their information gets circulated though the FBI system. It turns out that hundreds of these terrorist fighters have criminal records in the United States.
"I found the number stunning," said Frances Fragos Townsend, a security consultant and former assistant to the president for homeland security. "It suggested to me that this was going to give us far greater insight into the relationships between individuals fighting against U.S. forces in the theater and potential U.S. cells or support networks here in the United States."
I am sure that particular insight is important, but the this beg the question, how did they get into the country and what are we going to do to make sure we keep out more of these people:

Obama On Race Relations and "Blacks as Second Clas
From 1988: Obama On Race Relations and "Blacks as Second Class Citizens"
Posted: 06 Jul 2008 11:48 AM CDT
My Friend Jeremy sent me this article that Senator Obama wrote twenty years ago. After Alinsky: Community Organizing in Illinois. Originally published in 1998 and republished in 1990 Senator Obama wrote the chapter on why people should organize and it gives amzing insight of the mind of the young Senator before TV Cameras were placed upon on him, his views on the role of the theology of Black Churches and the fact that blacks are still second class citizens..etc.
Reading this article really give you a sense of the "us vs them" nature of his politics an that his campaign is the natural outgrowth of what he was doing in 1988---then as now, its all about the divisiveness of race:

Congress Loads Bill With $277 Million in 'Pork,' Watchdog Group Says
By Jillian Bandes

(CNSNews.com) - The House of Representatives tucked $277.9 million worth of earmarks - items in a spending bill usually designated for a congressman's district or state - into the appropriations bill it passed before the July 4 break.
That number is a 122 percent increase over the amount spent on earmarks in last year's bill, according to the watchdog group Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW).
The appropriations bill in question is the Fiscal 2009 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Act, or simply Labor/HHS. "In typical Congressional fashion, the Labor/HHS bill is loaded with pork projects and wasteful spending from both Democrats and Republicans," the CAGW said in its release.
But Dave Helfert, press secretary for CAGW's top "porker," i.e., earmark spender, Rep. Neal Abercrombie (D-Hawaii) - who had more dollars earmarked for himself than any other member in Congress - said that CAGW's earmark assessment missed the mark.
"We welcome the praise," said Helfert, responding to CAGW's charge that Abercrombie was the top spender. "It's hardly anything to be ashamed of."

I Never Knew There Was A 'Black National Anthem'
I am so out of the loop...I never knew this existed or that it was substituted for the National Anthem. What is going on in this country? First it was the protests in the cities with the Mexican Flag, there are law suits to take 'God' off our currency and out of the Pledge of Allegience, the Confederate Flag has been taken down, and now this??? No wonder this country is so divided.
If you are a citizen of this country, you abide by it's laws and traditions...no fractured groups making your own "national" traditions!!! If this is the way you feel, please leave the country!
Eeeeekkkkks!!! What next???

Picks for VP
I am still watching both candidates to see which one I am less afraid of. On the one hand, I think we need a fresh face, one with new ideas that do not represent business as usual. However, that candidate's lack of experience scares me and I wonder if he knows he probably can't accomplish half of what he promises without tearing down the ruling party in Congres which wants only business as usual. McCain scares the hell out of me, as he is too well entrenched in the worn out policies that have caused many of the problems we have today. I think he represents more of the same, and will be just as unable to get things done with a Democratic Congress as Obama. True, we need to either win this war or get out, but can it be done without crapping all over ouselves? I have to give Bush credit for the fact that we have not been attacked since 9-11-01 and wonder what the changes Obama wants to bring about will bring for our national security. I do blame Bush for much of the economic hardship we have endured over the last 7.5 years. Deregulation of the mortgage market allowed a bunch of fatcats to rape the national economy. McCain has a similar skeleton in his closet: remember the Keating 5? He used his position on the Senate Banking Comittee to call off federal regulators that were looking into irregularities in the junk bond market, which resulted in the collapse of hundreds of banks at taxpayer expense. We don't need any more of this. I won't even discuss how the oil market except to say that the government should have been looking for a solution back in 73 when OPEC was first created. It's a global problem and will require global action now.
That being said, I would like to throw out a bone for us to chew on. It seems that McCain will pick a running mate who will be every bit is predictable as himself, but what about Obama? There's the topic for curiosity!! I think that if he wants to assure his election he should put Hillary on the ticket. Nobody else, in my opinion can do more to assure his success, both in the election or in his term. Or, has anybody considered that Bill Clinton might be willing to throw his hat in ring? True, he doesn't need the bucks, but I believe a seasoned politician like Bill would welcome the opportunity to get back in the game in ANY capacity. He would perhaps be as likely a choice as Hillary to seal the election, as people remember how well the economy ran with Bill at the helm, and the economy is quickly becoming the number one topic on voter's minds. Bill is like a God with the Democratic leadership, more likely to change policy in Congress than almost anyone else. What do you think??
