Vista Problems

I posted this on computer tips and tricks but will also post here in hopes of finding someone with answers. Our daughter and her husband just got a new Dell computer with Vista. They downloaded Avast antivirus, an adware program, Itunes and a screensaver but the problem didn't start at the time of any of these downloads. It has started showing blue screen error with no rhyme or reason to when and why. Sometimes they are on the internet, sometimes not. Has anyone else had this problem with Vista?

Skype & Internet Phones

I recently subscribed to Skype and have been using microphones on my computers. I tried a Philips VOIP080 USB phone, sound was good but the cord drove me nuts, then I tried a Netgear 200D cordless that plugs into the router so it works when your computer is off..worked great for 2 days then the buttons would not respond and the sound quality faded. I liked the way it worked but am wondering if it was just a bad phone.
Has anyone had experience with skype phones?

Recovery Disk help please!

Hi Everybody!
Ihope that everybody had a great July 4th and it looks like there are lots of inquisitive questions just like me. Everybody here is the greatest and I want to tell you that you give information so concise and easy to understand. I really appreciate all your kind help.
I noticed that my 10 GB recovery disk is very filled and only has 1.8 GB left on it. What happens when it gets full. I have a Gateway PC with Windows Vista Home Premium installed and I noticed that there was a block in the properties that was unchecked to compress files. Should I check the compress files box? Should I clean files out and how would I do that. I don't want to go into unknown territory and make things worse. I am not afraid to try something if I know what I am doing? I need more recovery space. What causes it to fill so fast?

Thank you computer guru friends, and I truly do appreciate all your help.

Cheers!

IM and Routers

I have a Toshiba laptop (4 yrs old, 2.80 GHz, 40 GBHDD, 512 MB DDR) that I have never connected to the internet--- just use it for work around the home and powerpoint presentations. I am now planning on connecting it to the internet and was planning on getting a wireless router to hook to the desktop I use for the internet. I know I will have a lot of downloads and things to set up to get security up to date but I have a question about security and IM

I have searched and read on these forums about the 'open port' and security problem issues when using services like Yahoo Messenger. My question is if I use a wireless router does that solve the problem of the open port? Maybe I am not understanding the issue with open ports with Messenger but I do need to use it to connect with people in another country. ( BTY, I use Skype, but I have several people that I need to talk with that only want to use Yahoo Messenger.) Is the open port issue a problem with Skype too. I always completely shut down Skype when I am not using it --- does that take care of the problem?

I have searched the forums but can't really find an answer to this so hope someone can help me understand.

Need some Help

Hi. I'm very VERY new at this computer-knowing business . I get by with writing and sending material BUT after that I don't know too much of the lingo and how to navigate successfully in it. I'm learning, I'm learning ,and really love this confusing machine but this is my problem:
When something fails, like it did a few weeks ago and I couldn't get EONS because the back was all white and the letters came out crooked. I asked a friend to help me and he did set me straight but then I had to go to my Symantic and get Techi help ( which I had to pay on top of it)and THAT'S WHEN HE SCR----me royally! He left out my Adobe Distiller 5.0 and didn't add some of my icons to my desktop and who know what else since I'm ignorant to all that. Now I need my Adobe 5.0 and I don't know how to get it back!! I've tried, believe me I have but I get into more trouble.

Is there a willing soul to tell me in the simplest words how to get it back here? If not I'll have to wait until I get back to the States and dump this whole machine!! TIA
I hope I didn't annoy anybody with my story.:-(
I aplogize if I did. Zochitl

uploading pictures

Hi, I'm new and hate to jump right in with a problem, but I'm just barely computer savvy and am having some issues with uploading photos to Eons.

Here's what I do. I go to the photo page, select 'add photo', a page comes up and I select the 'from my computer' option. Another page comes up and I select the 'user' option where file folders are, then I select the 'pictures' option and my folders with pictures come up, I select the folder I want, then hilite (turn blue) the picture I want. The name appears in a box at the bottom of the page, another box under that one lists things like 'jpeg' etc. If I right click I can get things like copy, share, open with, move, delete, etc., but I can't find the html code or link option anywhere. All our photos are jpeg format. If I click the option to open the picture, my computer tells me it has to shut down because it experienced a problem, or Eons tells me there was a problem with uploading my photo.

An Eons friend directed me here saying that maybe you could help. I sent the Eons help team a message stating the problem I was having and followed the directions they sent via their FAQ section on uploading photos, but still have the same problem.

Thank you for any help you can offer and I look forward to learning more from people more savvy than me. :~)
