TIME OFF

Hello brothers and sisters in Christ. I just want to let you know that I'll be inactive in the group for about a week. I will, however, be checking in to say "Hey!" when I can. Fortunately, we are an intimate and loving group who doesn't need to be babysat.

That said, remeber that you are all always in my prayers and I'll be back to my usual posts soon. In the meantime, I am looking forward to seeing some new posters help carry the load in my absence.
PLEASE POST!
Thank you and God bless.

One Bread, One Body - Reflection for August 25, 20

REDEMPTIVE SUFFERING
"We can boast of your constancy and your faith in persecution and trial." –2 Thessalonians 1:4

Our persecutions and trials are not completely the fault of our persecutors. Some may very well be "an expression of God's just judgment" on us for the sins we have not repented of (2 Thes 1:5). Therefore, our persecutions and trials should lead us quickly to repentance.

After we have repented, we can suffer persecution. In this way, we build up God's kingdom in an exceptionally powerful way (2 Thes 1:5). No praying, preaching, healing, teaching, or serving can have the impact that repentance and redemptive suffering have in furthering God's kingdom. We were saved not by Jesus' ministry but by His suffering.

Therefore, it is a "special privilege to take Christ's part – not only to believe in Him but also to suffer for Him" (Phil 1:29). "Rejoice instead, in the measure that you share Christ's sufferings" (1 Pt 4:13). "See to it that none of you suffers for being a murderer, a thief, a malefactor, or a destroyer of another's rights. If anyone suffers for being a Christian, however, he ought not to be ashamed. He should rather glorify God in virtue of that name" (1 Pt 4:15-16).

PRAYER: "We pray for you always that our God may make you worthy of His call, and fulfill by His power every honest intention and work of faith" (2 Thes 1:11).

PROMISE: "For great is the Lord and highly to be praised; awesome is He." –Ps 96:4

PRAISE: St. Louis, king of France, especially delighted in serving the blind. He wished to keep his deeds of mercy secret (Mt 6:4), and the blind were unable to recognize that he was a king.

FAY

this image is from Fay's FIRST hit on Florida. "she" has since made two more landfalls. Please pray for the victims of this terrible storm, and know how thankful i am to NOT be one of them.

Dear God, we pray that you keep all who are in the path of this terrible storm safe from harm. If there are those who lose all of their possessions, please keep them reminded they must NEVER lose their faith in YOU.
We ask this in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, forever and forever.
Amen

Discipline Prayer

Prayer is a discipline and a habit we should develop. It should not be something where we wait for a crisis. Or we are in a desperate situation and then we start to pray. Perhaps most people are the desperate type. They may never go to something like an overnight prayer unless they are in a real crisis. I think this kind of Christianity is not worthy of our Lord Jesus Christ. We come to Him only when we are desperate. We have not moved into the discipline of prayer that God wants us to have. Well at least it is better than those who don't even pray. We must realize that there are different standards in God that we could achieve. We could either be satisfied with a "C" minus. Some people are satisfied with that in a Christian life. Some people aim higher and go for "B" and some people want to hit "A" with God. They want excellence with God. And that is where we want to reach. We want excellence with God. We should not just be satisfied as we are.

This suggestion is important to me. How many times do I fall asleep and realize I did not take the time to give my Lord the time He deserves. To me it is important to be discipline in all we do and especially in prayer. Blessings, Ibis

HOST DESECRATION: NOT FREE SPEECH BUT TERRORISM

Photobucket
August 12, 2008 by Father Joe
Dr. P.Z. Myers’ crusade against religion illustrates defects in civility, empathy and imagination. Dr. Myers, himself, seems to like being a maverick drawing personal attention. It is no secret that the Internet can quickly make celebrities out of little men. Those who “think they are smart” and the impressionable are easily awed by jargon even by third rate minds, no matter whether from a scientist, theologian or philosopher. Those attracted to such fickle flames bask in the anonymity of this technology, posting nasty remarks, pictures and videos, supposing all the time that nothing will ever be traced back to them. Dr. Myers does not seem to care if he hurts others. The fact that many take solace and offer noble witness in the cause of faith does not measure any credit, only ridicule. Like Karl Marx, he regards religion as a drug, something which retards the mind and gives false hope. No doubt he would argue that the great scientists among Christians and Jews made their contributions despite or in opposition to religious faith, and not as an expression of their devotion to God’s majesty and a desire to know the mysteries of his creation.

FACE THE TRUTH TOUR PARTICIPANTS ARRESTED!

August 13, 2008 by Father Joe

We advertised the annual FACE THE TRUTH TOUR in our monthly Knights of Columbus Newsletter. I prayed for the success of their efforts. A good friend of mine, Joe Healy was a participant in the effort. I was shocked to read on his Blog that eighteen participants got arrested in Bel Air, Harford County, Maryland on Friday August 1, 2008. Joe was holding a sign and witnessed everything, including capturing some of the arrests on his camera. He writes: “I miraculously walked away without being arrested and immediately began making phone calls to get help for these great pro-life warriors!”

PEACEFUL PRO-LIFERS ARRESTED!
Photobucket
This was unbelievable! It appears that the state police gave a false report about the incident, claiming that the pro-lifers were walking between cars stopped at a red light. Evidently, upset motorists (pro-abortion, no doubt) contacted police about 30 to 50 people holding large signs and pictures, claiming that they were walking in traffic at an intersection on Route 24 just north of Interstate 95.

Police spokesperson Greg Shipley reported that “Two troopers responding to the calls asked the protesters to disperse after they could not produce a permit to demonstrate. An hour later, 20 members of the same group marched again at the intersection. They were charged with disorderly conduct, failure to obey a lawful order and willfully obstructing the flow of traffic.”

Joe, who is a faithful Catholic and good family man, reported the story and corrected the errors. He writes:

I was there for the entire time and captured much of the event on my digital camera.

1. The people who were arrested were not marching among cars stopped at red lights; they were standing in the grass on the side of the road, each holding a pro-life sign and quietly praying.
2. We did not refuse to disperse; we took the signs down at 5:00 PM.
3. We did not return to the same intersection; we moved to another location and set the signs up again.
4. At that location, a state trooper arrived and began arresting people without telling them why.

Joe contends that “this [was] deliberate attack by the State, the trampling of MD citizens’ First Amendment rights.” He asks some serious questions:

* Why is it against the law to stand on the side of the road with a sign and pray?
* Why can MD State Troopers arrest 18 peacefully assembled people without telling them why and without reading them their rights?
* Why can they hold them for up to 48 hours without charging them with anything?
* By what authority can a police officer order people to leave a Maryland county without citing an offense? Is this the United States of America or the Soviet States of America?
