Remember Sparrow's Calypso

An old man, a boy & a donkey were going to town.
The boy rode on the donkey and the old man walked.
As they went along they passed some people who remarked it was a shame the old man was walking and the boy was riding.
The man and the boy thought maybe the critics were right so they changed positions.
Then, later they passed some people who remarked, "what a shame he makes that little boy walk."
So they decided they both would walk!
Soon they passed some more people who thought they were stupid to walk when they had a decent donkey to ride.
So they both rode the donkey.
Now they passed some people who shamed them by saying how awful to put such a load on a poor donkey.
The boy and the man figured they were probably right, so they decided to carry the donkey.
As they crossed the bridge, they lost their grip on the animal and he fell in the river and drowned.

What is most interesting . . .

Hey guys, I'm trying to post topics that we, as a group, find most intersting - so perhaps you can reply and give a list of topics you enjoy most and least (or, topics you would enjoy seeing more of).

I enjoy:
- chats "in patois" about the island foods & culture
- West Indian jokes
- chats about everyday life "back in the day" on the islands
- documentary style history of (or little know facts about) the islands' people and culture

I would not enjoy:
- discussing politics (though I haven't seen any of this)

The History of . . .

Jamaica Jerk Chicken

Photobucket
Jerk is a style of cooking native to Jamaica in which are dry-rubbed with a fiery spice mixture called Jamaican jerk spice. Jerk seasoning principally relies upon two items: allspice (Jamaican pimento) and Scotch bonnet peppers (among the hottest peppers on the Sackville scale). Other ingredients include cloves, cinnamon, scallions, nutmeg, thyme, garlic, which are mixed together to form a marinade which is rubbed onto pork, chicken, or fish.
Jerk Chicken is believed to have been conceived when the Maroons introduced African meat cooking techniques to Jamaica which were combined with native Jamaican ingredients and seasonings used by the Arawak. The method of smoking meat for a long period of time served two practical purposes, keeping insects away from the raw meat and preserving it for longer once it has been cooked. This process also introduces a strong smoky flavour to the meat.
Jerking has evolved over time from pit fires to old oil barrel halves as the container of choice. In about the 1960s, Jamaican entrepreneurs sought to recreate the smoked pit flavour, and relatively quickly came up with a solution.

Ottey

Ottey's seeking to qualify for her 8th Olympics - Unprecedented. Oh! Sir Lionel Luckhoo is Guyanese though I'd be proud to have him as Bajan.

Caribbean

I was born and live in Puero Rico. Spanish is my first language.
I love it here. It is a small island. I finish a relationship of 20 years with a man from Puerto Rico. We drink run with coca cola and dance salsa. People here like to party. I never have an american boy friend, i dont know how they are.

Keep cool!

It's the 6th day of 89 degrees or more temperature here in the north east.
Splashing about in water at Negril beach sure is an excellent thought right now - hope you're keeping cool!
