Going it on my own
For those of you who don't know it, I recently left the corporate world and started my own business. It has been a fascinating adventure so far and as you can see from so many posts below, Boomers and 50 Plussers are re-shaping the world once again...by starting new businesses mid-life. Many of you have gone into the world of MLM, but my own tried and true has always been in building person-to-person connections (a very grass roots, relationship-building focus.) If you are having trouble finding an employer to hire you, have you thought about what you might do to start a new business? I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you'd do, that you LOVE to do, if you could figure out how to make money from doing it!!!

Unemployed
Hello to all that view this message:
My name is Patricia and I have been struggling to find employment in the job market arena. I have a B.S degree in CJ from Michigan State University. I have been unemployed for close to 6 years; I have held P/T employment and temporary employment within those 6 years only to be laid off. My last job with Los Angeles Unified School District was an Office Technician (Clerical), I got laid off on June 27, 2008 and I am currently looking for employment.
Before my last employment I worked as a Return to Work Specialist (which is similar to Workers Compensation Specialist) for Los Angeles Unified School District and again I got laid off. Unemployment for older workers is very bleak and if you don't really know someone you are out of luck in finding employment. Usually, my job situation is where there is only 1 opening with 1 to 2 openings, with 50 or more people applying and being interviewed and I am amongst the final 5 candidates to select from and I always get beat out by someone whom I am told has "more experience".
I am so frustrated with the economy; everybody in my family is unemployed. I need to continue working, making a decent wage to continue to take care of my aunt who is 97, years old, with medical conditions and to have a life.

I work for Cloud 10, Call Center -- I started April 23, 2008 and am still there. I am now Tech Support for Comcast High Speed Internet. No, I did not have any experience at this type of work. My computer experience is so, so. But they do train you to help the customer with their internet problems. The pay is low. $8.50 hour and $9.00 hour after two months. You are considered an employee but there are no benefits except the benefit of not leaving your home. I work 30 hours a week. Some people work 20 hours a week.
The two websites have new jobs everyday. Some are professional. But review the web site and you will see all types of jobs.
Remember never to pay any money if they ask you for it. I have never been asked for a dime. I get my pay through direct deposit.
I did hear on the news today that the job market was very bleak. Teens could not find a job because adults were taking these jobs they normally would do when school is not in session.
I wonder how USA can keep taking in immigrants and cannot provide simple jobs for the people who already are here.
I did see where they extended unemployment for 13 weeks starting July 7, 2008.
I sometimes open a room on Paltalk (www.paltalk.com) where people can come in and talk or can text chat -- vent their feelings. I find that not too many people are interested.
Good luck to all. I find these websites, WahBoom and Rat Rebellion to be very good and has lots of work at home jobs you can review and if interested, apply to.
If you really want to work, you can. I am living proof; as I found a job working at home.
If you are disabled, here is another web site, read and investigate this. Of course, you will have to document your disability by a doctor and there are jobs, like IRS, etc. that are hiring.
Good luck to all. Any questions, just click on my name and I have my email on ENON's page. Paltalk is a simple download, you can text chat or if you have a mic, you can talk.

Rebate processing
Does anyone have experience with this work at home scheme? You process rebate claims for companies from home to make up to $225/day.
I got the email through netsavings.com. The spokesperson is Angel Stevens.
There is an upfront fee of just under $200 although they claim you can try it for 3 months free.
Please let me know if you know anything about this.

New Spin on My Career
Hi, everyone!
Hope your holiday was fabulous!
I am trying to "downsize" my career from a very hectic management position to an "administrative assistant/office manager" job that doesn't require two weeks of travel a month and 14 hour days. Does anyone have any experience in rewriting resumes not to hide your accomplishments but to redirect them? I'd appreciate any help you can give.
Best...

New Member hello
Hello Boomers:
Just joined today and since I am currently in a job search, this was the first group I joined. I can immediately relate to the topics of ageism and other challenges of trying to jump start a career in its later stages.
I am a career Telecom professional competing with numerous competitive forces not the least of which has been a contracting industry, imported talent willing to work for less and of course, youth!
I will be very intersted to meet new friends, share experiences and NETWORK!
Best regards,

A great idea!
How many non-profit groups do you know? Do you know any churches, volunteer fire departments, private schools, public school booster clubs, veteran organizations (VFW, American Legion, Disabled Vets, ETC), fraternal organizations (BPOE, Eagles, Moose, etc)? The only requirement is that they have a 501C non-profit designation from the IRS.
If you answered yes to any of those……………..we need to visit? I will help you with contacting these groups and putting money in your pocket!
All we have to do is show them that they will get a site just like this: www.watkinsonline.com/mikkelsen Then, show them how to get it to their members and they will earn 17.5%-31.5% from the sales made through that site every month! Just think, if we showed a group how to grow to 1,000 supporters. Then those supporters each purchased $50 per month from Watkins. We as associates earn 5% from those sales……………or $2500.00 in this illustration. Would that help you?
Thank you,
