Father's Day Mountain Bike Ride
On Father's Day Joe and I joined a few friends from our mountain bike club for a fun ride at St. Eds Park in Kenmore. We rode for 2 hours and then headed to the annual microbrew beer festival held every year at St. Eds Park. What a wonderful day it turned out to be. Mountain biking and then food and beer. The weather was great too. Sunny and hot. The day before, Saturday, we sat for 3 hours in the sun on bleachers 400 miles away watching our son graduate from college. It was one of my best weekends to date this year.

Kern Bike Path

I had an opportunity to ride the Kern River Bike path this weekend while visiting my daughter in Bakersfield, Ca. This was a wonderful pathway, about 25 miles long so if you rode it as a loop both ways, you got in about a fifty mile loop. This path had regular rest areas with water, shade and a bench to rest on for a bit. Lots and lots of friendly people that I came in contact with on my rides, both days. A couple even remembered me on Sunday from the ride I took Saturday. This is mostly a level ride through the city, although you'd never know it was around you, and was used by bicylists, joggers, walkers, rollerbladers, and others just interested in getting out for a little fitness. There were access points every mile or so within the city limits so you could get on or off without having to go the whole distance. Regular police patrols as well provided a law enforcement presence that I'm sure kept down the criminal element. Once you get outside the city limits however, it gets pretty empty and contiues on until just before you reach I-5

I really think that there should be more of these in every state, even if it took Fed. Gov. assistance to provide funds or land to do it. Just having this path encourages people to get out and use it and excersize who wouldn't if they had to go out on a public highway. Wonderful time, wonderful people, wonderful experience. Riki
Leaving tomorrow for a great weekend of riding!
Tomorrow Joe and I are driving over to Leavenworth for the annual Ale Fest! There is also going to be an Ale Fest Bike Ride. The 75 mile course was cancelled because of SNOW but the 50 and 25 are on! Joe, Jim, and I are riding the 50 mile course. After our ride on Saturday we will then return to our condo and shower and then head on over to the Ale Fest! WOO HOO. Leavenworth, WA has some of the best mountain bike trails too but we arent' taking our mtn bikes with us. Too much snow still over there. We will return back in June for the annual Mountain Bike Beer Fest. I can't wait for that event! One of Joe's favorite rides. Great trails and great beer! LOL
I hope everyone else will be out this weekend enjoying the spring weather (at least I hope your weather will be spring like and nice) and report back on Monday. Would love to hear about everyone elses weekend rides too.
Enjoy . . . Pedal On!

Hi everybody

Hi everyone, I ride both Mountain Bikes and Road bikes, just noticed this group and thught I'd join. Here in Oklahoma we tend to ride Mountain bikes in the winter because with all the rain we get in the summer it turns all the off road trails into "expert mud slogging trail". I'm not a real agile mudder, but I enjoy the trail riding when the trails are in good shape. My favorite local trail is the 13 mile singletrack at Draper Lake east of Oklahoma City. It has 4 trails of varying difficulty from beginner to experienced. I ride all 13 miles and have fun on all the trails. I guess I'm not experienced enough to stay off the beginners trails. The trails are maintained, (sort of) and can be a real challenge even for an expert rider if they are very muddy. Nothing like good old sticky Oklahoma red mud for a real challenge. Lots of hills, trees, rocks and a few hazards thrown in to make it interesting. Other times I may just ride some of our local rural gravel roads around here, that's fun too. We have another trail at Stillwater, Ok. that is really good too, but a little farther for me to go, and time is always a challenge for me.
Love to Bike!
Hi everyone!
My husband and I are both very avid mountain bikers and road cyclists. We LOVE to bike!
I live in the pacific northwest just 40 miles south east of Seattle. Joe and I have mountain biked and road biked on some pretty scenic trails/roads. Lots of great cycling right here in the beautiful state of Washington but we have also cycled in Montana, Idaho, and Oregon too.
I have a few of my favorite pictures here at one of my web sites:

If you are ever in my area of woods give me shout and I can hook you up with some pretty nice rides in my area! Road or mountain!

New NH guy
Hi,
I am Zolofish. I am an avid Mt. Bike Rider.
I have been off road biking for ~15 years. I know of some great MT bike trails in Southern NH. I tend to ride hard trails in a cross country style. I do some down hill but being older i won't do very dangerious stuff.I'll keep in touch and send some photos.

ITS Trail
Just discovered this group and have been on the "Bicycle" group for quite some time.
Anyway I was reading the message about trails in Illinois. Another great trail that when completed will go from St. Louis, MO, to Springfield, IL and will be some 95 miles long. It has already started south from Springfield and north from St. Louis. Sometime in the future they will meet!
I'm a member of the ITS (Illinois Traction System) Trail Committee. It's our effort now to take the trail from Staunton, IL, to Gillespie, IL. Before the end of this year one will be able to ride a bike over the McKinley Bridge that crosses the Mississippi River at St. Louis and travel in a north easterly direction all the way to Staunton. This is about 40 miles. It's another 8 miles to Gillespie. But we've only got about 6 miles to get paved as there is already about a 2 mile section between Benld to Gillespie that was completed about 10 years ago.
Gillespie is about 1/2 way between St. Louis and Springfield so it should be a great destination for riders. Half way meas about 100 miles round trip from either direction. Great place to spend a night!
My wheels are turning! And I don't mean bicycle wheels!

Wisc Trails
Hey RDW,
Yes, that's either on the Root River or Harmony-Prescott Valley Trail. We rode the Sugar River Trail several years ago. Let us know how the new trail is! Have you done the Elroy-Sparta? Have a great ride!

Happy Trails!
Hello Trailqueen! Looks like you've just started here. My wife and I also enjoy riding trails. I see you have a couple of Katy trail photos... That's one of our favorites! We covered the section from St. Charles to Tebbetts in 2004 and a short section this past summer which included the Rocheport tunnel in your photo! We are hoping to start at Clinton and end up at St. Charles sometime this summer.
Our only Bed and Breakfast stay so far has been at The Doll House in Rhineland, Mo. (on the Katy) Highly recommended!
We've also done the Tunnel Hill Trail in Southern Illinois, Lost Bridge Trail, Lincoln Prairie Grass Trail and Lincoln Prairie Trail all in Central Illinois.
The Lincoln Prairie Trail is about 15 miles of paved trail about 6 miles away from home! We hit it often in the summer when we have time.
