A Course In Miracles Q&A
* A Course In Miracles * is a beautiful book, a deep, poetic, and
mysterious book. In this group, we can enjoy each other's
company, chat, ask, share miracles, discuss, question, study,
learn, compare, contrast, confirm our true identity -- and have fun!

* A Course In Miracles * study groups all differ in nature. My 3D group in Eugene, Oregon laughs a lot. We enjoy finding the humor in the course and in our lives. We love sharing our stories, experiences, doubts, fears, hope, tears, wishes and desires for miracles. We spend our hours together scouring the Course about issues that concern us. And we find good, satisfying answers. We learn a lot, grow a lot, and have a lot of fun.
Do you need a copy of the book to join this group? No. It is all provided for you in the Files section of this group.
In the "Files" section, you will find downloadable versions of the Text, Workbook, Manual for Teachers, and the Supplements (Psychotherapy, Purpose, Process and Practice -- plus Song of Prayer). Another fascinating document in the Files is the URTEXT -- the original typewritten notes for the Course. In places, especially the first 125 or so pages, the URTEXT is different from the edited version and sometimes what you find there makes the Course concepts even more clear.
From the Files section, you can download and read the Course, search through it, find keywords, phrases, and answers to the most pressing questions that might face you in your life today. You can also go to this link -- view link -- where you will be able to search through the files with a table of contents.
Do you need to be an expert to post to this group? No, not at all.
“There are no foolish questions,
and no man becomes a fool
until he has stopped asking questions.”
– Charles Proteus Steinmetz
The Course is vast and speaks of vast subjects -- human nature and the divine experience. As long as we are alive, we all will be questioning, wondering, searching, seeking for answers to questions. And as long as we are alive, we will never outgrow our need for loving inspiration.
I encourage you to also join the group *A Course In Miracles* and read the lessons daily. We can discuss them together. Or if you write me (PatriciaRobinett) a private message, I will add you to an ACIM Workbook mailing list called _Salon_ that sends the lessons out daily -- with no added commentary.

Hello new friends: I just joined the list and look forward to becoming involved.
I have studied this book for a few years and I must say it is very addictive. I love Disappearance of the Universe as well. After reading it, it really got me on track with what Jesus meant.
Take care.
Blessings, Acimah

Practicing Forgiveness
I am on vacation, so I have time to relax, reflect, play, experiment and study.
I have inadvertently stumbled upon a safe and appropriate forgiveness arena for myself.
There is a particular news channel that reflects political views quite different from my own. So, as I watch the commentators, I seek to view them through the lens of the HS--rather than judging them as wrong.
As I was just doing this, I said to myself "what is not love is fear and a call for love." Then I had the thought that one person looked as if he had a sociopathic look in his eye--almost a vacant lack of conscience.
So I asked myself: Are sociopaths frightened? I had always thought that they experienced an absence of emotion.
Any thoughts on this anyone?
Thanks.

"I love this cat. What changes when I see him as an illusion?"
the problem in imagining that a cat is real is this:
IF YOUR HAPPINESS DEPENDS ON HIM,
then when that illusory body leaves, so does your
happiness. that is the problem in not knowing
Reality. we deserve to have a direct link to real
happiness... happiness that is not dependent on
anything that can leave / die / be threatened.
what changes when you see your cat as an illusion
is your fear of losing him. when he leaves his cat
body, if you see death as 'real', then you will grieve
endlessly. if you realize that all bodies are just
temporary vehicles for us all to play in, then when
he leaves, you will remember him fondly but not think
you are alone... for you are never alone. he has
been reminding you that you are love and that you
are loved by inspiring the love in your heart, so you
appreciate him, but problems arise from imagining
that he IS his body and that the love you feel is
DUE to his body's presence... because bodies are
not real.
'nothing real can be threatened'...
and bodies can be threatened...
'nothing unreal exists'...
so the body doesn't really exist.
but the Life that breathes his body is real.
the spirit of Life is real. his essence is real.
and that never goes away. it is eternal...
cannot be threatened.
when you become very good friends with the Life
in yourself, then you recognize that the same Life
is breathing him. and you recognize that it is his
true nature, as it is yours... and the body is not.
knowing Life ends the fear of death...
our own and the death of loved ones...
or loss of home / possessions / job / whatever.
it's a case of putting things into perspective
and having the ability to draw on the power of
love from within, regardless of external
circumstances.
did that make any sense? :) it's pretty late and
i might not have been very clear. let's keep
talking about this VERY important subject if we
need to.

The power of decision is my own
dearest ACIM fellow travelers:
this is such an empowering lesson.
it deserves some very serious consideration.
the course delivers this same beautiful
message in a number of different ways.
yet i know people who have studied the
course for many years who still do not know
how true it is. if you can let this lesson sink into
your bones, you will be 'eons' ahead of the game.
i suggest reading it and laying on a sofa or bed
and allowing the words to penetrate to the core
of your being.
supporting quotes from the text:
"nothing real can be threatened;
nothing unreal exists."
"I am willing to see everything differently."
"What if you recognised this world is an hallucination?
What if you really understood you made it up?
What if you realised that those who seem to walk about in it,
to sin and die, attack and murder and destroy themselves,
are wholly unreal?
Could you have faith in what you see,
if you accepted this?
And would you see it?
Hallucinations disappear
when they are recognised for what they are."
(p.s. in my world, june 1 2008 is the day for lesson 152...
just as june 1 2007 was and june 1 2009 will be --
in my world, feb 29 - the leap year day - was a non-day.)
allow yourself to spend some time with this one.

Finding the Arrows
Have to share with you a fun example of a miracle my daughter and I recently participated in.
First, set the scene:
We have a little archery target out in our yard. We are not very good at archery. Hence, over the years, we have missed the target and sent numerous arrows flying w a a y past it -- into the grass. And, I do mean INTO THE GRASS, as in, completely buried, driven into the ground, under the grass... LOST. We have lost perhaps 10 arrows this way in 2 years.
So. My daughter and I were out having a friendly little archery competition. I will mention that I recently shared with my daughter (25) the power of saying, "I am willing to see this differently" when confronted with frustrations and anger. Anyway, there we were, armed with, I should mention, 6 brand new replacement arrows which we were enjoying because of their straightness and swift flight.
I, uh, missed the target repeatedly, and, you guessed it, lost a couple arrows. My daughter and I combed the thick farm-field-like grass inch by inch, and before you know it, she found hers! She said to me, "You're never going to believe this, but I said to myself, 'God, I am willing to see this differently,' and I turned, and there was the arrow!"
This was especially fun, because I think this was the first time she'd ever tried this thought.
I had not found my arrow, however, and after 15-20 long, hot minutes scrutinzing the thick grass, we gave up and went back to playing.
Each time we had to go to the field to find an arrow, I looked, and I still could not find it.
Finally, the games were over and there were two wayward (new) arrows that we had sadly lost, seemingly forever. We trudged around in the grass, tired and discouraged. And, I admit, I was praying to see it a different way, a way that would reveal to me where they were hidden. As I prayed, my spirit lifted, and instead of trudging, I started to dance.
I raised my arms and swooped them around gracefully; I pranced with a bounce in my step; I twirled and dipped as I looked at the grass. "Hey, Mom! What are you DOING over there??"
And then, "I FOUND IT!!" I found the buried arrow. And it was very buried! The feather end and the point were both embedded in the thick grass and ground with only a little of the shaft visible between blades of grass. Twenty seconds later we found the remaining lost arrow.
Any other day, I would have given them up for lost. And it is not like me to normally dance around my yard, especially not when I am feeling discouraged. But, God had something else in mind, almost like poking me in the behind with an arrow, God set my body to dancing, changing my discouragement to silliness and joy... and having me find what was lost.
Every day miracles. If you knew our grass, and how many arrows we have given up looking for, you would see this as a miracle. But, the bigger miracle is the one of the heart. The heart of the daughter who tried to open up to something new, and who was rewarded immediately. The heart of the plump, middle-aged gramma in a sunhat dancing with joyful abandon in the evening sun as she opened herself to the spirit and was rewarded to find what was lost, rewarded with laughter and a light heart.

Why I Love Old Movies
I love movies. Film is one of my most favorite ways to relax. Today I may see a movie about a group of wise and experienced adults who travel the world making music.
I got to thinking this morning about WHY I like film so much. Two of my favorite film makers are Frank Capra and Steven Spielberg. Despite the current trend for blood and gore in some films (I don't see those), I think film-making has been a vehicle for artists to present their experience of people living via their miracle mindedness.
Certainly Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life" does this. In this film, via the lead character, we all develop appreciation for what we take to be not only mundane but trying times.
Similarly, so many of Spielberg's films have dealt with the universal impulse in films to love: ET, Close Encounters, and my favorite of Spielberg's Schindler's List are heartfelt, enormously touching renditions of choosing love.
I love the cable stations (in my area it is Turner Classic Movies) that broadcast classics because this theme is often a strand in classic films.
Despite some filmmakers often being criticized for being overly idealistic, I think that much of the inspiration they provide is just that: inspiration.
Have a beautiful day everyobody.

this information so clearly demonstrates how very important our thoughts are. studying the course helps us learn to choose our thoughts more carefully.

your miracles
any miracles to share?
i had a wonderful evening with friends.
i'm working on an audio CD of my book.
i was going to set up the 'sound studio'
in my bedroom, then something said,
"downstairs bathroom" -- and so i set it
up in a very small room, which is working
out very nicely. :) it's the quietest room
in the whole place. no windows. quiet...
except when the guys next door flush
their toilet -- and then it sounds like i'm
in a tornado! LOL.
back up... erase... record again.
it feels so nice to be reading the verses
aloud and with feeling, such as
"you ARE the holy son of god himself!"
the message is so powerful. so many
scriptures say the same things. it's
good to hear the same message in
so many different words.
"ye are gods -- all of you are children
of the most high!"
and so on. :) love, patricia
