Mensa Invitational
Here is the Washington Post's Mensa Invitational which once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition. Here are the winners:
Have You Noticed?
Have you noticed that no amount of friends and family and social activities can fill the void? Is there anything so intimate and wonderful as having a mate so close to you that you can tell them just about anything, share your most embarassing thoughts, appear in any state of dress or undress, confide any whim or desire? Go to a party and discuss the whole affair honestly on the way home. Let them know what you fear, what you hate, your politics, your religion...everything and anything.A fearless communication with no retribution.
Only a mate, a spouse, a significant other can fill that roll. Is it any wonder that we all feel as if we have lost an arm, a leg, a vital part of our self that participated in our everyday functioning?
That is not to say that we were dependent on another person for our survival. We are independant and do not need a care taker. But we need someone who cares in that special man/woman way.
Life is sweeter with that nameless body part that we grew to love, expect, respect, and yes, need.
So why is it so odd to want to locate another relationship that can restore those warm and fuzzy feelings? After a certain amount of time, different for everyone, we need those secure feelings of knowing that someone will be looking for us if we don't return home on time. Someone will call during the day just to see "what's going on?" Someone who shares a joke or occurence that we can laugh about in public or private...our secret. And nobody gets it but the two of us.
I think it is only natural to want to duplicate something similar.
Am I the only one who feels this way?

Hello Friends
I'd like to have one post only here - the purpose of this is more or less an online "petition" to take back the pussycat and lizard lounge.
Please keep a running commentary here, add your replies, and tell your thoughts.

Good Morning Ladies: All Is Kinda Well

I hope all is well this wonderful morning. I am doing well, but my spouse is not. He and all of his brothers from all over the country will go to Boston to be at their father's bedside. He is not doing well and in the hospital. The doctors do not think there is anything else they can do, (As Cali says, they are talking the "H" word) thats why the boys are all headed back home. He is a wonderful man and has been the "father" I never had. It's so funny, he knows how busy I am sometimes and will not ask to speak to me if my spouse says I am busy. But, the other night when my spouse called his hospital room before he ended the call, he asked to speak to me and he and I had a wonderful conversation. I could not put into words how accepting this man was of me into the family... this is going to be hard, because I am not sure how my husband will take it. He did not even do well with my mother's death.
My father-in-law is definitely the first "father" image I could say showed me love. He has always been "Dad" to me.
Thanks for listening and please do have a wonderful day and weekend.

Boiling water
Ouch. I just went to make myself a cup of coffee and poured boiling hot water onto my foot. Shit that hurts. Any of you ever done that?
