A short time ago, a proposal was put forth to cancel the collection of the "gas tax" to assist Americans over the summer. The idea was categorized as irresponsible at the time but there were many politicians who saw advantage in supporting the idea. Today, the House is debating how to handle a severe shortfall in the Highway Trust Funds account. Without going into the raid on this "Trust" account as one of the strategies to mask the size of the federal deficit, the duplicity of some legislators because most Americans refuse to monitor their representatives is shameful. This is just another example of what happens when the country decides to go to war on a credit card.
I missed something in the translation

Alas, this is just the beginning! Tax cuts for the rich when we're in a military conlict? A government that cried -- spend, spend, spend!
During every other war people were expected to sacrifice, what is the difference now? Could it be "throw the masses a crumb" and they want notice that we're idiots?
Our bridges, roads are falling apart. We've leased our highways to foreign couttries, we owe our asses to China.
Will the real America please stand up!

When I was a child, the Republican party claimed, at least, to be in favor of fiscal responsibility. During Newt Gingrich's Contract on America, the Republicans became pro-spending for pet projects and to enrich contributors, but simultaneously anti-tax. The morons who vote Republican don't seem to understand that the money we give to Haliburton and British Petroleum has to come from somewhere.
