Have you notice people running out of gas ?

People are testing exactly what the "empty" on their dashboard means. I have seen people periodically with gas cans. I travel a stretch of interstate and metro beltway routinely that does not lend itself to planning properly as to gas stations, especially on holidays or after 9 pm.My own gas gauge has not worked in 3 years. As this is a pick-up, it would cost me hundreds of $$$ to buy a new sending unit, have the tank dropped out, and pay for the labor to replace it. I go from 10 gallons to 10 gallons on local driving by hitting the trip indicator. At 150 miles I start to worry, and by 175 I better have gotten gas. I ran out on the interstate a couple years ago by overestimating, speeding, and then not getting off to look for gas fast enough.

Maybe more people are hanging on to their cars longer, and some of those older cars (like mine) have broken gauges.My truck is 11 years old and 180,000 miles, and I will be driving it to infinity and beyond as I can't afford to replace it.

Now that you mention it, in the last week I've seen two people who were out of gas, and you are right -- it has been quite a while since the last time I had seen even one person out of gas. Hmmm. Nice observation.
