Last night was the final show of Season 12 or 13 (I've lost count) of "The Bachelor/Bachelorette". You would think that by now I would have had enough of the whole premise of this show, but no, I am hooked. I'm usually pretty good at guessing the outcome but this one took me by surprise.
Back to the whole premise, finding a soul mate in six weeks while dating a stream of guys all at the same time. Who can do this? Seriously, what man or woman would lack such self esteem to even try. There are certainly better ways to meet someone, and the funny thing is that all the people they put on the show are reasonably attractive, so you would think that unless they lived in some kind of shell, they are young enough to be out there meeting people and enjoying their lives. This last batch of guys made such fools of themselves I am really shocked. The women haven't fared that much better either in the stupid antics they would go through just to get a date. Perhaps it's the fun dates that are planned. I can't really think of any other reason.
And now there's DeAnna, jilted by Brad on "The Bachelor" and invited back to be on the opposite side as "The Bachelorette". I missed the final episode where she got dumped, but I really must congratulate both Brad and Jen Schett for realizing that perhaps a television dating show is not a way to develop a relationship. As the season progressed, it turns out DeAnna was quite the "drama queen". She cried at every rose ceremony about how hard it was for her to be letting people go. Almost like she was having too much fun to play by the rules. There just seems to be nothing genuine about her.
So when we come to the finale it's really hard to tell which way she is headed. Is it going to be the single father and instant parenthood if she gets married, or the professional snowboarder, who seems to be a lot of fun but IMHO has absolutely no substance. Much to my surprise, it was the snowboarder. Closer to her age, but what is going to happen when his snowboarding career ends? He couldn't even answer the question when her father asked it.
Well, they've set a wedding date for next May, and they may even make it to a wedding. Fortunately ABC didn't offer to pony up a million dollar wedding this time. Instead, they are giving them a honeymoon in Santorini. Smart move on ABC's part, certainly cheaper anyway. I give that marriage five years at the most, and I certainly don't see any children, both parties are too much about having fun and living large. Makes you wonder how they are going to react when reality really sets in.
Do I see Jason as the loser, not even. I wouldn't wish her on anyone, let alone a nice guy with a child. He was the real winner last night.
Wonder how this show would do with single boomers instead of young singles. Maybe someone should write ABC.
