Lost my laptop yesterday. Knew exactly where it was, didn’t know what “unmountable boot volume” meant. Hmmmmmmmm………sounds like a good title for a blog!
Every time I tried to reboot the stinkin’ thing in “safe mode” so I could look around, it sent me back to, Oh, No!! THE BLUE SCREEN!!!
I have a saying: the only things that break around here are the things I can’t fix! Why must I always be right??
And where was my very own computer expert? In Santa Barbara! You would think that, after 40 years, he would know to check with his mom before leaving town! I did talk to him, and he said he would think about it and leave me a message if he thought of something I could try.
When I got home from work: no message. That can’t be good! Guess I will just have to wait until he gets home, whenever that is………..
Got up early this morning, couldn’t sleep. Shuffled through papers until I found the number for Tech Support. Can you say “outsourcing”? I don’t know what time it was in India, but it was 05:30 a.m. at my house!
A little over an hour later, and $42.14 the poorer, my laptop is working again! That’s the good news!! The bad news?? I never, ever back anything up, so this is what is gone:
All my Excel business files (I do have hard copies)
All my stories and poems, in Word (only some are printed)
My share ware games (best dang Solitaire around!)
My firewall
My music playlists
And, worst of all, my photos! (straight from digital camera to Picasa2 on my laptop)
No Mckay playing Tiny Tots Basketball, or T-Ball
No Aidan and his championship basketball team
No Matt, Elena, Oliver, and Anton at Disneyland
No birthday party pictures
No last pictures of Grandma Honey
No Christmas pictures from years and years of
family gatherings
They’re Gone, Baby, Gone!
When I PM’d The Man to let him know I’m back online, his response was “YOU ROCK WOMAN”. I like that! He is always so encouraging.
But, if I’m gonna rock, it will be as a back-up singer. Wearing my rhinestone shimmy dress, high heels, and big hair—and backin’ up the important stuff!
They’re Gone, Ga-, Ga- Gone, Gone, Yeah
Wah Hooo!
Shoubee, Doubee, Doubee Doo
Oh, Yeah!
I’m rockin’ it
I’m backin’ it up
And I ain’t crashin’ it no more!
Cali
Wouldya back up?? I’m crashin’ here!

I think the photos in Picasa might be on the web for you, if you uploaded them there.

wowser...that's too bad that you lost those things. i understand that is why people use photobucket just for this very reason. in the event you lose your photos they are backed up on line on site...good luck though. it can be very annoying when the comp. decides to crash and usually at the most inopportune time.

I've had that happen to me so you'd think I'd know better and put them on line somewhere but I haven't....

This happened to me years ago so I finally started backing up the important things on cd and jump drives thingys. In fact I bought another usb flash drive to back up some more of my pictures.
Sorry to hear bout your lost and glad you got your computer up and running again.
