As I sat in my physician’s office today, I witnessed a small piece of an industry that is virtually recession proof, growing at a double digit rate and has tons of unfilled jobs just waiting for trained personnel. America’s Health Care Industry is the biggest in the world and the jobs can’t go offshore. Also, the customer is often indifferent to the price being charged as third party is generally paying the bill. Even competition is moderate as there is enough gravy to go around for everyone.
What is also alarming is it is mostly unmanaged. I should know as I earned my living for the last 15 years of my career trying to bring some rhyme or reason to this monster we call the American Health Care Industry. It is a muddle of private and public providers, private and public payers and a myriad of networks and tiers that boggle the mind. Everybody drinks at the trough, including lawyers who suck blood off the system and call it justice.
So if you want job security in these uncertain times, jump into the fray. Be a nurse, supplier, manager or accountant. But don’t be a lawyer. There’s already enough of them on the tail end of our nation’s ambulances.
