i am listening to an interview with Barbara Kingsolver about the year she spent living off of what she and her family were able to produce.

I love the idea of producing the food that I eat but, ultimately, it's still just easier to buy it at the farmer's market. Easier and still fairly cheap for me just to feed myself. Today, I bought, rhubarb, apples for cooking, zucchini and summer squash, potatoes, kale, cucumbers, and organic lettuse. I bought enough vegetables for myself for a week for under $15.
I do have my herb plants and a few pepper plants but those are more for my entertainment than for actual food production. Every year, I toy with the idea of signing up for a garden plot up at the community garden in the park, but I always wimp out in the end.
Hmm, maybe next year....
