A Starry, Starry Night...
posted 3 months ago
I did something a few nights ago that I hadn't done in years. It was rather late when I got back from spending the evening at my mother's, but my grandson Nick, who had gone with me, was still wide awake. Instead of going inside, he and I lingered to watch the sky which had cleared from a storm we'd had earlier in the evening.
Suddenly, I had the urge to find where I had stored my dad's old binoculars. I hadn't thought of using them in years but seeing Nick's interest in the night sky, I got them out and sat outside with him just watching for meteors, looking at the moon, and showing him some of the stars and planets.
Sitting there with him, and passing the binoculars back and forth, kind of took me back to my teen years, when my best friend and I would do the same thing. We would sneak out her bedroom window, onto the roof, where we'd spend most of the night watching the sky, and talking about all the many things that girls do. We made plans for our future, of meeting Mr.Right, of college and whatever else came to mind. Finally, we'd crawl into bed when dawn broke, and sleep until the morning was almost gone.
I sat there with Nick, talking and watching the stars until he was too sleepy to stay any longer, then took him inside to bed. When I finally fell asleep as well, I dreamed of laying out on a roof, with my best friend, whispering girlish secrets until dawn. I haven't stept that well in ages!

What a wonderful experience to share with your grandson. And thanks for sharing it with us, it brought back fond memories when times were so much more relaxed and dreams seemed so real.
May all your dreams and Nick's from that great evening come true. - 3. about 1 month ago Makkadawn wrote:

- Ummm Brought back beautiful memories of camping with my family before my husband died. He and I would sit by the campfire watching the stars and moon and conversing with each other til the wee hours of the morning then sneek into the camper trying not to wake the boys

Just like Makkadawn wrote earlier - your grandson will never forget your time together watching the stars. And reading your post brought back memories about one of my grandsons and I sitting on my pickup tailgate and eating oranges when he was just a little tike. Thanks for guiding us to your post.

Isn't it the most beautiful sight. I love to sit out at night and watch the sky. Just to think God hung each and every star and Planet there for us. It is relaxing. I too use to slip out after bed time. Sit out till midnight. Made for a sleepy day in school the next day. lol.

- My husband and I do that almost every night from our porch. It is why I love summer so much. I enjoyed your blog.
