I sure hope that “being a kid again” includes my late teen years because that’s what my new car brings me back to.

I’m first and foremost a child of Motown…..cars and soul/r&b music…..they go together like hand and glove for me. So when I finally had to give in and trade in The Queen Mary II due to the high cost of gas, I felt like a fish out of water. I had, after all, driven a pick-up truck as my vehicle of choice for 35 years…..just call me MotherTrucker! I felt safe in my tank on wheels…..but for the past 10 years or so, I also felt like I was contributing to global warming and our dependence on foreign oil…..so, time for a change.

My first car was a 1966 Chevelle Malibu ……followed a couple of years later by a 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme …..both true red, white and blue all American cars. My idol during those years was Shirley Muldowney so I drove those cars like dragsters. I remember driving home from work at 100 mph, all the windows open with the radio blaring, tuned in to either WJLB or WCHB, the true voices of Motown!

Who would’ve known that I could relive those years (although not that foolish 100 mph) when I leased my new Ford Fusion!! I now hop (well actually, with a few aches & groans….LOL) in that car after work….don my Eons baseball cap…..crank open the moon roof and all the windows…..and tune in to Sirius (hey, it’s a free subscription for 6 months) Soultown and I’m 19 again!!
