Wa State Supreme Court Rules It's Okay to Lie!!

In a 5-4 ruling Thursday, the state Supreme Court of Washington struck down a 1999 law that banned political candidates from intentionally lying about their opponents.
The high court majority said the law was an affront to free speech. For the entire article:

The ACLU hailed the ruling as an important victory for free speech. (Of course they did.)
A few years back during a local political race in Washington State one of the pols running for office ran a smear campaign and knowingly lied about her opponent. Even though she lost to the incumbent, the incumbent filed a complaint against her and the complaint was upheld by a lower court.
This week the Supreme Court of Washington sided with the liar, who was represented by the ACLU, even though she admitted to the lie, and said that lying in a political race was acceptable behavior by politicians. (My guess is it's going all the way to the SCOTUS.)
Saying lying is okay sure opens a lot of cans of worms - Bill Clinton was a politician and he lied; Scooter Libby was a politician and he lied...
Martha Stewart wasn't a politician but she lied...Marion Jones, the Olympic Gold Medal Winner lied...
One of those pesky Ten Commandments said something about "not bearing false witness"; but I have to assume now that the Washington State Supreme Court can trump God.
Way to go guys; this is sure a way to clean-up dirty politics, don't you think?

Washington State can now become like the rest of the country during election season - a cesspool. A very sad ruling for a "Supreme" court.
