Where is it written that eating must be pleasurable? Hmmm? Eating is a necessity of life, like going to the bathroom. Does THAT have to be pleasurable? Why does food have to taste good? Can't it be enough that it is edible? And then, what is the sense of taste for? Why must people (Americans) be RULED by their sense of taste?
There are people in the world who eat LIVE GRUB WORMS and enjoy them. Would you? And then there are people who can't ABIDE the thought of eating eggs for breakfast.
So, I got to wondering...if taste is not really important, what is it for? After lengthy contemplation, it dawned on me the evolution could have only had one thing in mind when it developed "taste". Survival of the species! That's what's important overall, anyway.
So, the only reason for a sense of taste can be the forewarning of POISON! If it don't taste good, don't eat it and you will survive. Logical? So, then to carry this train of thought further...nothing has to taste GOOD...just not BAD. So, for those who eat because "it tastes good" are not following the rules of NATURE. Eating for pleasures sake is an anathema to the laws of survival. Eating should be treated as something that HAS to be done, not wanted to be done because it TASTES good. If more people could change their mind set about this, the obesity rate and death rate because of it, would cease to be a problem. Mothers, don't stick a sweet treat in the kids mouth because he is crying and don't tell him to finish up his plate when he knows he is done. Eating until full is not a necessity unless you don't know where your next meal is coming from.(like and animal in the wild) Time for humans to grow up and realize that food was put here for us to survive on. Not to enjoy or overindulge in. Suggestion: think about God or Nature if tat is your choice, don't think..."I don't feel good. Think I'll eat something".

Eating is one of the supreme pleasures of life, running a close second to sex. Hell, I've run across some foods in my lifetime that I'd almost give up sex for! Actually, there are still some food that I have trouble with because my throat muscles haven't fully recovered from the surgery that removed the lower half of my esophagus and a third of my stomach. I haven't been able to eat a hamburger in over two years, the bread and the ground meat just seem to clump in my throat and stay there. Rice is sometimes a problem, as is bread in general. If it's piping hot, I have to let it cool down; if it's icy cold, I have to let it warm up. It's a good thing I prefer English-syle ale to American beer!
Along with eating, the greatest pleasure in my life has become cooking. Check out the blog I'm launching soon at view link for some of the recipes I've developed since my surgery.
Most people eat to live; I live to eat!

#2 -- I have to agree that eating can be one of the most sensuous pleasures imaginable. Let me warn you, if you try completely paying attention to your food -- taste, texture, feel, smell, sound -- you will NOT eat as much as you are used to. A smaller amount of food will totally satisfy you. I guarantee it!
Good post Smitty!

Excellent post, Smitty!! It's true, you should NEVER turn eating into a PLEASURE! And people will live longer if they're not obese....being obese brings other health problems to you, diabetes being only one of those. Thank you for posting this!

That's not to mention all the additives, dyes, chemicals, and growth hormones the food industry adds to our food to get people addicted to them, and keep them that way. Monosodium glutamate being one of the worst ones! Profit is the bottom line here...without profit, where would they be? If they add things to get people addicted to the food, people will buy MORE food, and when they buy more food, they become obese, and the food industries profit increases....double, triple, and so on. Also increases the profit of the drug companies....when people eat too much, get sick and go to the doctor, the doc prescribes medicine....a lot of which he gets a kick back on for prescribing, and the drug companies profit then goes up, too. Yeah, governments motto should be::::get the people addicted to food, make them obese, give them diseases that keep them sick and going back to the doctor repeatedly (caused by the food they eat), then get them addicted to prescription drugs. The food industry gets rich, the drug companies get rich, and government dictating to big businesses gets rich.....everyone happy, right? NOT! The only SAFE food is that 100% organically grown! ~coming up for air now, lol~

It is not always easy to do and sometimes people will do just about anything in their power to change it into eating for pleasure.
Especially little old ladies!
