13th Friday

Today is Friday the 13th. Oooooo Spooky some might say. Some people are going to try to stay home today.

The fear of Friday the 13th (known as paraskevidekatriaphobia) is so real for some, bless their hearts.

I don't ever recall being afraid of this day that doesn't come around that often. I do believe that bad things happen sometimes. Bad things happen to good people sometimes. However, bad things happen on Friday, the 13th, Saturday, the 14th, Sunday the 15th.....well you get the point.

Superstitions have always been a part of society for as long as I can remember. It's bad luck to open an umbrella inside the house, especially if you put it over your head. Bad luck will follow the spilling of salt unless a pinch is thrown over your left shoulder into the face of the devil. If the palm of your right hand itches it means you will soon be getting money. If the palm of your left hand itches it means you will soon be paying out money. Step on a crack break your mother's back.....and so on.

I guess I've never believed in these superstitions because I don't believe in "luck" good or bad. I believe that every single thing happens for a reason. Things may seem to happen at random, but it is clear to me that God is in control of all of His creation and is able to take the random acts of natural law, the free will of both good and evil men, and the wicked intent of demons and combine them all to accomplish His good and perfect will I am given the promise that He works all things, whether seemingly good or bad, together for God to those who love Him (Romans 8:28). So I am going out today to visit my Mother in the hospital, and work in my flower bed....okay I may not work in the flower bed but I will take care of me and go visit Mama and I will try not to break a mirror or walk under a ladder -- just kidding.
