I'm getting a promotion effective tomorrow. I have to admit, I wasn't sure if I would ever get another one. In my field, both age and gender were working against me. I will pretty much be giving up being a techie, and I will miss that. I have always enjoyed that kind of creativity and problem solving. Now I will be managing a project with contractors and a small staff. It will be a completely different set of challenges. I'm really excited about the project and my role in making sure it's a success. And I'm so grateful my new boss saw past the gray hair to my interest in this project and my capabilities and was willing to give me this new challenge.
