After the area around Guilin we traveled to the Three Rivers Gorges Dam for a couple of uneventful days on the river. Got sort of diverted as the Chinese Gov't was very security-conscious as the Olympic Torch passed near the famous dam and they were afraid Tibetan separatists might cause some disturbence on the ocassion, but nothing transpired.
Then on to Xi'an and the Terracotta Soldiers which were very impressive and well taken care of. Lots of food streets and neighborhoods to explore and a first class history museum covering all the major dynasties. Xi'an is the beginning of the Silk Road and was the capital of China before the upstart Beijing took over a mere 850 years ago.
On to Shanghai on the night train in a few hours.
