Thursday, May 29, was my first anniversary . . . of being an Eons member! Wow, what a difference a year has made! Eons was my first experience with a social networking site . . . I was so naïve back then. I had not a clue what a difference Eons would make in my life when I hesitantly took the plunge to join. I had heard about Eons through an email ad and my curiosity was instantly sparked but I was also a bit reluctant to give it a try. But I certainly am glad I did!
I am no stranger to working with graphics programs, but I was a total novice when it came to using html codes. It took me awhile to learn how to post pictures, change the font colors, and snazz up my profile! Like I said, what a difference a year has made. Now I help other newbies learn how to do these things. Once I learned how to do all these things I become somewhat addicted to Eons and even wrote a blog about it!
At first I joined only a few groups. Then, I started to post a few things here and there. And before I knew it I was asked to be a Moderator by GJ! I accepted his invitation, but I really had not a clue what I was supposed to do except to post messages and monitor what was posted. Since I was reluctant to ask, I just watched and learned! I cannot thank GJ enough for being my mentor. And for his patience and willingness to answer all of my questions! I have learned how to do so many wonderful things. I was asked to be a Moderator for several other groups, and I continued to watch and learn from PJ and Chattye, Managers of E4D and Oldies R Us. As the months passed and I joined more groups and met more people I became a Moderator for a few other groups.
I have made some great friends here on Eons. They have become just like family to me. And what a cast of characters they are! There’s Emom . . . one of my closest and dearest friends who is blessed with a wicked wit and the ability to play a mean game of “gotcha.” She lives in Kentucky and is owned by 6 dogs, a rooster named Romeo and several chickyducks! There is always an adventure to be shared . . . like the trail riders she greeted in her red robe toting her gun, the “serpent” in Cow Creek, the crazy neighbor who lives up the road, etc.
Through my membership in The Lighter Side of Oldies Music I have met several more ladies and one impossible but lovable Nag! Britgal, Annie and I have had the best time sharing music and laughter. Annie and I often have hoof-in-mouth disease cyber-style! And then there are all the outrageous typos! BG usually gets lost at least once during a conversation . . . so now anytime any one of us gets confused, lost, or befuddled during a chat, we just say we are having a “BG moment!”
BG refers to Annie and me as the Dynamic Duo because we always seem to be stirring up something or mucking up something! Perhaps the funniest example of this is the time Annie asked me to add the link to the Birthday Club post to the TLS Announcement. Now, I had never posted an announcement before so I didn’t realize that what I posted would remove BG’s announcement! Thank goodness she has a sense of humor!
The Nag I mentioned is one NapaNag (aka NN) . . . a guy with a quick wit and one of the worst punsters alive! He keeps us all on our toes. When you put him together with another buddy, Marvin, you need to be prepared for anything and hold on for the bumpiest and silliest ride of your life.
Along the way I have also met Karen (aka ksilla) and Divana. We three share a love of animals and have several groups in common besides TLS: CCC, Fun Cats, and Oldies R Us. I’m actually hoping to be able to meet Divana and her husband and Annie and her family this summer in New Orleans. And trust me, if the three of us get together, New Orleans will never be the same again!
A few months ago, BG decided she wanted to step down as Manager of TLS and asked me If I wanted to move up to that position. I reluctantly agreed. But it has been a great experience. I have 3 great Moderators to back me up (BG, Annie and Divana), as well as a very active membership who post some of the greatest music there is. They also threw me quite a bash for my birthday last month! I was roasted and toasted and enjoyed every minute of it.
It has been a great 366 days and counting. Yes, there have been some downs, but they are certainly outweighed by the ups! Eons is the next best thing to sliced bread as far as I'm concerned. Thanks to everyone for making my first year a blast!
Now, if only I could figure out a way to get paid for doing this . . . .
